Now in its 10th Year, the BA Performance degree course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is the only 3-year vocational training course for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students who aspire to become actors and makers of theatre and film.
We are looking for a Lecturer in BSL and Translation. This is a core member of the team – your primary function is to work with BA Performance students on their translation into - and expressive use of BSL in a performance context throughout their 3 years of study.
You will be: A BSL specialist, who will advise the team and other members of the RCS on BSL usage, Deaf culture, inclusion and barriers to participation.
You will contribute to the ongoing work to develop access and increase use of BSL across the Conservatoire, including teaching BSL to various departments.
You should: Be a native BSL user (Highly skilled receptive and productive use). Demonstrate in depth knowledge of the British Sign Language, deaf community and culture. Have proven teaching experience and a proven ability to translate a wide variety of material effectively between BSL and English (and vice versa)
