The role
We have a market leading reputation for producing bespoke solutions for niche customer groups managed by our broker partners. Within the wider Schemes team we deliver Schemes (Delegated Authorities and MGA) solutions across the UK retail business.
You’ll work across the existing portfolio of MGA business as well as ensuring the successful delivery of new MGAs. You’ll work with the wider Schemes Team across underwriting, operations, sales and the wider senior leadership team to drive improvement and profitable growth of our schemes MGA portfolio, playing an integral part in realising our ambitions of growing the book in line with our strategic ambitions.
You’ll report directly to the Head of Schemes and you will have responsibility for managing the portfolio and people performance of the Schemes MGA business. You will drive and shape our selection, growth, underwriting, performance and portfolio management strategy for MGA’s.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Leading a team of MGA underwriters and analysts to execute on the vision, ensuring you support their day-to-day needs
2. Playing an active role in supporting the talent and development needs of your team
3. Leading the development of the underwriting, performance and portfolio management strategies and associated frameworks, specific to our MGA strategy, to ensure the profitable growth objectives of our MGA Sector are achieved that are in line with our business objectives and risk appetite
4. Leading underwriting by taking referrals and underwriting the most complex exposures
5. Responsible for loss ratio performance in line with budgets
6. Identifying and implementing relevant underwriting and product changes
7. Underwriting and portfolio management of new deals through delivery and existing deals through review cycles
8. Working in conjunction with the wider Schemes Leadership Team you will be responsible and accountable for preparing and delivering profitable growth plans for your MGA Sector
9. Keeping abreast of new risks and exposures within your Sector to harness new opportunities and ensure Hiscox’s market leading position is maintained
10. Ensure your Sector team meets Hiscox standards, you will be responsible for underwriting standards within the MGA sector underwriters and compliance with risk and underwriting policy
11. Act as a senior representative for Hiscox and your Sector both internally and externally
12. Support strategic relationships in terms of trading and execution with our broking partners
13. Proactively analyse, identify and action against portfolio and people performance metrics for your Sector to drive the necessary strategies that will deliver the financial plan and support our vision
Our must-haves:
14. Experience of MGA’s (either operating within or management of at a senior level)
15. Significant underwriting and analytical experience
16. Confident analysing data and reports, making and executing underwriting decisions on portfolios of business
17. Ability to make confident decisions in difficult and complex situations
18. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead a team and operate in a collaborative environment
19. ACII qualification or progression towards
20. Results driven, ability to make decisions and operate on own initiative
21. Ability to execute and influence at all levels both internally and externally
22. Open to new ideas, innovation and educated risk taking
23. People management and leadership skills preferred, or demonstrates the potential to do this well
