VGC Group are pleased to be supporting a key client, who are shaping the future of the UK's power infrastructure, as they look to hire a Senior Engineering Manager to lead engineering and design delivery across major HV Transmission schemes, from concept to completion. Role Overview Position: Senior Engineering Manager – Overhead Line (OHL) Systems Reporting to: Director for Engineering & Technical Services Focus: Day-to-day leadership of internal and external engineering teams; management of large-scale, complex multi-disciplinary projects, primarily 132kV–400kV OHL systems. Key Purpose: Ensure engineering deliverables are completed safely, to specification, on time, and within budget, while supporting innovation, compliance, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities: Lead engineering activities across pre-contract and project delivery stages. Manage engineering resources for temporary works, design reviews, and approvals. Maintain high-level engagement with clients, supply chain, and consulting engineers. Support tenders and bids, contributing technical insight and design strategy. Drive innovation and embed lessons learned across OHL delivery teams. Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, H&S legislation, and industry standards. Represent the business in external forums and industry networks. Manage training and competency records for all engineering personnel. Promote sustainability, safety, and continuous improvement in all engineering activities. Candidate Requirements Experience: Senior engineering management in OHL, transmission, or HV infrastructure projects. Track record: Delivering large-scale infrastructure or utility projects. Technical knowledge: 132kV–400kV OHL design and construction, temporary works, design assurance. Leadership: Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage engineering risks. Collaboration: Experience in joint ventures, alliances, or collaborative frameworks. Stakeholder management: Skilled in engaging clients, regulators, and contractors. Qualifications Degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline. Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working toward chartership (ICE, IET, or equivalent). Training in CDM, H&S, and environmental standards highly desirable.
