Dispensing Assistant – Fortuneswell Pharmacy

Job Summary
Fortuneswell Pharmacy is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, located next to the Fortuneswell Chemotherapy Unit. The Pharmacy team provides medicines and pharmaceutical advice to haematology and oncology outpatients, and offers a home delivery service across Dorset. Seeking enthusiastic, self‑motivated individuals to assist in dispensing operations and support outpatient pharmacy services.
Main Duties
* Assisting in the maintenance of an efficient and safe dispensing service.
* Ensuring that work is undertaken in line with policies and procedures.
* Communicating with patients, carers, nurses and other healthcare professionals, demonstrating empathy and providing clear advice.
* Managing pharmacy stock, including ordering, receipt and inventory management.
* Maintaining a safe working environment.
* Contributing to policy and service development by suggesting improvements within own area of activity.
* Reviewing staff training materials and Standard Operating Procedures under the supervision of the Superintendent Pharmacist.
Person Specification – Essential
* General work experience in a pharmacy environment.
* Good level of education: GCSE grade C in Mathematics and English or equivalent.
* Qualified to NVQ level 2 or 3 in Pharmacy Services, or willing to undertake specified NVQ Level 2 units within an agreed timescale.
* Computer literacy with keyboard skills.
* Enthusiastic, motivated, proactive, able to work with minimal supervision.
* Ability to work methodically, accurately and under pressure.
* Organise and prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
* Work effectively as part of a team.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Flexible approach to work and openness to changing practices.
* Good analytical, judgmental and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent spoken and written English language skills.
Additional Information
Salary: £24,937 – £26,598 per annum (Band 3). Salary negotiable based on experience, including retention and recruitment premium.
Contract: Permanent, Full‑time. Working pattern: Full‑time.
Location: Dorset County Hospital, Williams Avenue, Dorchester, DT1 2JY.
Right to Work: This role is not available for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK.
