Job overview
A permanent vacancy has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to support our patients living with Parkinson's Disease for 28 hours per week. The successful candidate will preferably have at least one year's experience at Band 6 or equivalent, leadership experience, and experience in caring for patients with Parkinson's Disease with insight and knowledge of the condition. Full support, including a structured induction period, will be given to help the post holder meet the requirements of the role.
Although predominantly based at Furness General Hospital, there will be a requirement to travel across the bay.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will support patients with Parkinson's Disease diagnosis, delivering care in the clinic setting, on the acute wards, and in the patient's own homes when required. Multi-disciplinary team working is crucial in this role.

We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – as well as several community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
All three hospitals provide a range of planned care, including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery, with additional local outreach services and diagnostics across Morecambe Bay.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Act as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. The post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualized programmes of evidence-based care, providing specialist advice to patients, carers/relatives, and the multidisciplinary team on Parkinson's Disease. The post holder will work collaboratively and co-operatively with clinical and non-clinical colleagues to develop and improve services and quality of care delivered across the health economy.
Act as an expert in nursing and take a lead role in advancing the development of nursing practice.
In conjunction with the lead clinician, medical team, and divisional senior nurse, develop and implement comprehensive packages of information, education and support for patients and their carers/relatives, including running a nurse-led clinic for patients with Parkinson's Disease.
In conjunction with the lead clinician, service manager and divisional senior nurse, lead the development of clinical services following national and local guidance, including NICE.
Person specification
* Experience and insight into Parkinson's Disease
* Registered nurse Level 1 (UK NMC)
* Evidence of management and leadership experience
* Current knowledge and experience of caring for patients with conditions related to this speciality
* Evidence of clinical competence and credibility in the speciality and relevant post-registration qualification experience
* Evidence of mentoring, assessing, teaching and developing staff
