Arboricultural Consultant jobs in Essex
Varied and Meaningful Work:
From tree inventories and safety surveys to development management and veteran tree care, you’ll play a key role in shaping sustainable landscapes for communities and public sector clients, working on a diverse range of projects across the Southeast.
Our main work is looking after Essex County Council's tree stock throughout the county, surveying proactively and reactively to maintain the County Council's tree assets for the future and to ensure public safety.
You will also have an opportunity to support the delivery of Essex County Council's infrastructure projects, completing BS5837 surveys or constraints checks to ensure compliance with best practice principles of tree management.
For our external clients, which include Councils inside and outside of Essex and a range of other public bodies, we offer a full range of arboricultural services, including tree safety surveys, and veteran tree survey and management planning. We also specialise in development management support for Local Planning Authorities, looking at planning applications, TPOs and Conservation Area applications to provide recommendations that comply with legislation and best practice.

Preferred Skills
* Qualified or Aspiring Arboricultural Professionals:
You’ll have a Level 4 qualification in a relevant subject, and ideally be a Qualified Professional Tree Inspector. Membership of a professional body (e.g. M.Arbor.A) is a plus.
* Technical Know-How:
You bring detailed knowledge of tree species, arboricultural principles, and experience applying these in line with legislation, policy, and best practice.
* Strong Communicator:
You’re confident engaging with clients, contractors, and colleagues—both in writing and in person.
* Team Player and Self-Starter:
You can work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, managing projects from concept to completion.
* Digital Skills:
You’re comfortable using specialist software (e.g. GIS, Confirm, Ezytreev) to record, analyse, and present data.
