Are you a specialist Occupational Therapist looking for the next step in your career, or already working at an advanced level and looking for a change?

The York Hospital Elderly Frailty Team is looking for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist to take on the role of Advanced Clinical Specialist.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting integrated pathways across acute inpatient services at York Hospital. You will be providing clinical leadership and expertise in relation to frailty, as well as driving service developments, quality improvements and outcomes in relation to the service.

This is a pivotal role for a clinician who can provide highly specialist assessment, treatment, and leadership for patients with complex physical, cognitive, psychological, behavioural and social needs.

Main duties of the job

This is an opportunity to develop confidence in leading change, supporting others, and promoting best practice.

  • Managing a highly complex clinical caseload using advanced clinical reasoning and occupation‑focused assessment.
  • Leading specialist practice in frailty, ensuring safe, effective, and evidence‑based care.
  • Acting as a resource for highly specialist advice across the Trust.
  • Providing leadership, supervision, and mentorship to staff and students.
  • Driving service development, innovation, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contributing to research, audit, and evaluation activities.
  • Communicating complex and sensitive information with clarity, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams and across organisational boundaries.

    Qualifications and Training

    Essential criteria

  • Degree or diploma in pre-registration Occupational Therapy
  • Evidence of relevant CPD activities
  • HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist
  • Post graduate qualification relevant to post or willingness to complete
  • Desirable criteria

  • Membership of Professional body
  • Practice placement supervisor qualification
  • Masters level study within relevant area of practice or research and evidence-based practice
  • Experience and Knowledge

    Essential criteria

  • Experience in specialist role, including the management of a range of specialist conditions, with substantial evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal clinical supervision
  • Evidence of ability to lead and act as an authority on the management of complex clinical presentations in specialist area
  • Substantial experience of assessment and provision of specialist equipment
  • In-depth understanding of current issues in health care knowledge and understanding of Occupational Therapy Standards of Professional Practice
  • Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of progression through occupational therapy career pathway or framework
  • Significant experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area
  • Experience of delivering relevant audit/research projects
