Overview

To succeed in this role, you need to be self‑motivated, flexible and a team player. Good communication skills are essential as you will work with a diverse team to maintain high standards. This position offers an excellent opportunity for growth, managing and developing the team while providing exceptional service and adhering to food hygiene practices. Strong culinary skills will help you perform well in this role.


Key Responsibilities

* Monitor and maintain consistent food standards and quality across all Trust catering areas during all stages of production.
* Ensure that quality control measures and hygiene systems are achieved at all times.
* Prepare, cook and present inpatient feeding and retail food offerings in line with expected departmental standards.
* Present and serve food in line with Trust standards, using innovation in method, presentation and service.
* Participate in the HACCP procedure in accordance with the Trust’s Food Safety Policy, creating and maintaining correct use of records including cleaning rota and closing down procedures.
* Have accountability for the day‑to‑day running of the kitchen service.
* Actively participate in the ongoing management and development of menus, in line with Trust guidance.
* Discuss ideas with customers and obtain constructive feedback.
* Monitor stock control, ensuring stock rotation and use‑by dates are followed, and food wastage is minimised.
* Be responsible for the collection of deliveries to the site, undertaking quality assurance and accounting for all goods received.
* Support other units within the Trust, providing assistance to teams as needed.


Essential Skills and Experience

* Experience preparing both cooked and chilled food.
* Creativity and innovation to enhance the dining experience for patients and staff.
* Ability to ensure healthy food choices meet trust and government guidelines, increasing satisfaction within the organisation.
* Manage and develop a kitchen team while maintaining health and safety compliance.


Pre‑employment and DBS Requirements

All positions within the Trust are subject to satisfactory pre‑employment checks. The Trust mandates that all post holders who require a DBS for their role subscribe to the DBS Update Service. Enrolment in the service is required for a fee of £16 per year and must be maintained throughout employment with GMMH.

This role is not eligible for sponsorship unless you meet criteria for temporary exemption from current changes to immigration rules put in force on 22/07/2025. Separate provisions are applied to workers who have been sponsored and held continuously a Skilled Worker visa since prior to 04/04/2024.
