Job Description
Our client has a permanent vacancy for an Environmental & Sustainability Lead. You will champion environmental and sustainability improvements, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and maintaining the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. You will lead the established Environmental Committee, continue the carbon reduction journey, maintain their carbon neutral status, and collaborate with global colleagues to support SDG, ESG, CSRD, and future Net Zero ambitions. Additionally, you will drive waste recycling opportunities and reduce new packaging purchases.
This dynamic role involves assessing the latest environmental legislative changes, managing legal reporting requirements, and responding to evolving business needs, onsite incidents, and concerns.
You will lead company-wide activities such as energy usage reduction and electricity sub-metering, engaging with senior leadership, R&D, production, sales teams, and key suppliers and contractors. Your role includes advising and promoting sustainability goals, requiring effective communication and approachability.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week; 8:30 am - 4:45 pm (Monday – Thursday), 8:30 am - 3:30 pm on Friday.
Responsibilities
1. Monitor the impact of new legislation affecting manufacturing and ensure communication and compliance.
2. Ensure timely completion and submission of environmental legal reports such as waste and packaging.
3. Promote the use of information management systems including BSI Entropy and Solution Host.
4. Chair the Environmental Committee, ensuring timely action and completion of activities.
5. Report carbon footprint in line with SECR requirements to maintain carbon neutral status and develop Scope 3 reporting.
6. Ensure compliance with ESOS reporting and ISO 50001 where applicable.
7. Lead waste management initiatives, ensuring suitable waste contracts and educating staff on waste hierarchy practices.
8. Possess a working understanding of ISO management systems, especially ISO 14001.
9. Identify and drive environmental improvement projects aligned with IMS objectives.
10. Assist the Quality Manager with maintaining internal audit schedules.
Qualifications and Experience
* Environmental NEBOSH certificate, Environmental/Sustainability/Science Degree or equivalent qualification.
* Experience in monitoring, controlling, and reporting environmental legislation.
* Internal auditor training and experience.
* Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience.
