Salary: Circa £50,000, based on your skills and experience.
Your Mission
As a Principal Signatures Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our Stealth Engineering Above Water Signatures capability. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
* Lead the development of innovative low-signature equipment and systems.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, test methods, and approval criteria.
* Review design documents to ensure compliance with above-water signature requirements.
* Drive modelling efforts for radar, infrared, visual, and RF signatures using both custom and commercial tools.
* Develop testing methodologies to validate signature performance.
* Manage research initiatives with internal teams and university partners.
* Enhance stealth features on in-service submarines.
Your Skills and Experience
Essential:
* A degree (or equivalent experience) in Maths, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or another STEM field.
* Proficiency with modelling software or programming tools.
* A strong understanding of electromagnetism, radar, or infrared and visual detection technologies.
* Familiarity with stealth systems or signature control methods.
Desirable:
* A postgraduate qualification in a STEM subject.
* Experience in defence or large-scale manufacturing.
* Knowledge of submarine or naval systems.

About the Stealth Engineering Department
As a Principal Engineer, you’ll be part of a dedicated team ensuring the stealth performance of submarines built in Barrow. Your involvement will span the entire submarine lifecycle, from concept designs to major commissioning trials. We also offer relocation support packages for eligible roles.
