Offer description

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a GP who can efficiently and effectively perform all the usual duties within General Medical Services and who will integrate into our well established Primary Care Team.

About us

The practice is based in pleasant surroundings in a semi‑rural location, looking after approximately 12,000 patients in a modern purpose built surgery with well served staff facilities with a comfortable break sitting room and small garden. We pride ourselves on our very happy, cheerful working environment with a supportive and enthusiastic clinical and non‑clinical team, with many long standing members of staff.

We have regular practice and team meetings to keep all staff up to date which sometimes includes visitors keeping us informed of local services in the area. There is easy local parking and a train station just a 15 minute walk away with the added bonus of beautiful Surrey countryside nearby. We have regular social activities including an annual team building afternoon and a Christmas party.

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities:

Abide by GMC Good Medical Practice at all times.

* Healthcote Medical Centre operates a patient list system to aid continuity and safer care of our patients. You may be responsible for a list of patients, pro rata. Where two or more doctors share a list of patients between them, the total number of the patients on that list will be pro rata to the total number of sessions worked by the job sharing GPs. Some flexibility will be necessary because of the unpredictable nature of General Practice and variations in demand, to ensure patient safety.
* You will be expected to see patients and prepare reports including non GMS services such as medicals, sick notes, MCCDs etc. and all remuneration relating to this type of work is to be paid to the practice.
* You will be responsible for all paperwork arising from your consultations.
* You will be responsible for an appropriate share of administrative work (this includes DocMan workflows/Anima, Pathology results, PMAs, Medicines Management, Tasks, Out of Hours Records etc.).
* During periods of normal doctor absence/leave all doctors help to cover the absent doctors work.
* You will be responsible for telephone consultations / messages as allocated.
* The number of patients seen will vary depending on demand and the role/responsibilities will be/have been explained to you. However, we do adhere to BMA safe working patterns. Core Hours for the surgery are currently 08.00 to 18.30. We have a community medical team in Banstead that cover the majority of home visits. However, you need to make yourself available for potential home visits during these hours if required.
* You will engage fully in the Practices audit processes and quality care initiatives and standards, such as QOF and Enhanced Services, and commissioning strategies designed to utilize NHS resources appropriately and according to QIPP standards. This will serve to enhance patient care and develop your own knowledge and skills.
* You are expected to attend and contribute to the relevant practice meetings on a pro rata basis, the majority of which have an educational/professional development component. These will provide suitable material for reflection, CPD and hence your appraisal and revalidation.
* You will be aware of, and be guided by, the practice policies and engage in and contribute to Significant Event Analysis.

The Statement of Main Terms of Employment outlines the hours you will be working and the details of the job are listed above.

Outline of Sessions

The following outlines the general format of a session as we are currently working. However, this is reviewed regularly and will be adjusted accordingly. As General Practice demand is neither clearly defined nor predictable, some flexibility will be necessary:

2.5–3 hours clinical contacts (F2F, telephone, messages)

Remainder of session admin (referrals, prescriptions, lab results, docman/Anima, tasks, reports etc.), home visits if needed and CPD

Visits: Healthcote is a low visiting practice and numbers will depend on demand. If more than 2 are allocated to a given doctor it is suggested that the doctor seeks assistance from non‑listed doctors in the first instance, but other doctors thereafter. At busy times flexibility will be necessary to ensure patient safety.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

The GMC states the aims of CPD is to maintain and improve:

* The quality of care we give our patients and the public
* The standards of the teams and services in which we work

Both clinical and non‑clinical aspects of practice need to be considered. CPD should involve a mix of informal and formal learning. Learning should, as part of CPD, be disseminated to other members of the team to consolidate both the individuals learning but also enhance that of the team.

Bearing this guidance in mind, Healthcote has a strong educational ethos and offers numerous in‑house activities and opportunities that are suitable for development, learning, reflection and appraisal and revalidation purposes.

In addition to this, each Doctor at Healthcote is permitted to take 1 week per annum pro rata of external study leave, with pay, for other activities e.g. courses. The content and timing of this leave must be approved by the practice and the necessary request form needs to be completed, generally at least 4 weeks in advance to avoid disruption to patients and staff.

Qualifications

* MRCGP (at time of role commencement)

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
