Health & Safety Manager - Manchester \n\nProject: Various projects across multiple sectors including residential, commercial and leisure \n Location: Manchester, North West \n Job Type: Permanent \n Reporting into: Managing Director\n\nAbout the Company\n\nA North West-based principal contractor renowned for delivering cost-effective, high-quality construction projects. They operate across a broad spectrum of sectors, including Residential, Commercial, Industrial, and Retail, providing services that encompass the full project lifecycle from initial design and planning through to construction and completion. With a strong track record of successfully completed projects and commitment to exceeding expectations, they focus on achieving exceptional client satisfaction and approval.\n\nThe Opportunity\n\nWe are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager, initially based at the Manchester Head Office, to lead and uphold health, safety, and welfare standards across a portfolio of residential, commercial, and leisure projects.

The role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legislation and industry standards. You will also liaise with senior management to report on performance, manage documentation, and support projects in operating safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with all health and safety requirements.\n\nWhat We're Looking For\n\nQualifications:\n\nFirst Aid\nCSCS Card\nHealth & Safety Related Qualification and/or MembershipExperience:\n\nExtensive background within the industry with at least 5 years of experience working in a similar position for a leading contractor or subcontractor\nProven track record of working in a Health & Safety position on projects across various sectors with values up to £20mKey Skills:\n\nIT Skills\nThorough attention to detail\nQuality & Risk management\nAnalytical and problem-solving abilities\nSignificant policy development and implementation skills\nStrong ability to lead and manage health and safety teams\nThorough understanding of construction laws and regulations\nEffective and efficient communication skills; verbal and written\nCompetent in developing emergency response plans and procedures\nExtensive understanding of relevant health and safety regulations and lawsKey Responsibilities\n\nImplement proactive strategies to manage hazards and reduce potential risks\nReport on health and safety performance to senior management on an ongoing basis\nProvide regular updates and maintain clear communication with the Managing Director\nCreate and deliver tailored health and safety training programs to suit all employee roles\nMaintain thorough, up-to-date knowledge of health and safety laws and compliance standards\nKeep comprehensive documentation of incidents, safety inspections, and regulatory compliance\nConduct health and safety training to ensure staff awareness of procedures and legal obligations\nOversee budgeting for health and safety initiatives to optimise resource allocation and control costs\nCarry out internal audits to assess alignment of workplace practices with health and safety standards\nImplement and manage routine inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements\nRegularly evaluate and update risk assessments and control measures to ensure they remain effective\nCoordinate the sharing of essential health and safety updates to ensure understanding and adherence\nOversee the successful implementation of policies and ensure they are embedded into daily operations\nDesign and execute comprehensive emergency response plans, encompassing evacuation procedures, First Aid protocols, and routine drills\nEstablish robust health and safety policies that align with legal obligations and are tailored to the organisation's particular needs\nConsistently evaluating and updating health and safety programs to address emerging risks and enhance workplace safety\nUndertake comprehensive risk assessments to anticipate potential hazards, ensuring preventive actions are in place to protect staff and operations\nEncourage and apply sustainable health and safety initiatives to uphold long-term compliance and safety standardsContact Details:\n\nContact: James Shorte (Associate Director) or Thomas Robertshaw (Resourcer) at Caval - (phone number removed)
