JOB SUMMARY

As the Director of Engineering at The St. Regis London, you will be entrusted with the critical responsibility of overseeing the physical integrity and operational excellence of one of London’s most anticipated luxury hotel openings. This role is central to ensuring the safety, functionality, and aesthetic quality of the property, while also driving sustainability, energy efficiency, and long-term asset protection.

You will lead all engineering and maintenance operations, including the management of capital projects, preventative maintenance programs, and compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. As a key member of the Executive Committee, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the hotel and ensure that engineering operations support the brand’s commitment to excellence and timeless elegance.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

1. High school diploma or GED; minimum 6 years of experience in engineering, facilities management, or a related field, with technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing systems.
OR
2. 2-year degree in Engineering, Building & Construction, Mechanics, or a related discipline; minimum 4 years of relevant experience with technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing systems.
3. Experience in luxury hospitality and pre-opening environments is highly desirable.

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Key Responsibilities Engineering Operations & Strategic Oversight
4. Lead the engineering function with a focus on operational excellence, guest satisfaction, and asset longevity.
5. Oversee all building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, water treatment, and life safety systems.
6. Develop and implement a comprehensive engineering strategy aligned with the hotel’s business objectives and brand standards.
7. Manage departmental budgets, capital expenditure planning, and energy conservation initiatives.
8. Ensure timely and cost-effective execution of all engineering-related projects, including pre-opening infrastructure and systems setup.
Asset Protection & Preventative Maintenance
9. Develop and execute long-term preventative maintenance and asset protection plans.
10. Ensure all equipment and systems are maintained to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and reliability.
11. Administer service contracts and vendor relationships to support operational needs.
12. Monitor and manage utilities consumption, identifying opportunities for sustainability and cost savings.
Compliance & Safety Leadership
13. Ensure full compliance with local, national, and international regulations, including fire safety, environmental, and building codes.
14. Maintain all required licenses, permits, and certifications for the property.
15. Lead the hotel’s emergency response team and ensure all engineering staff are trained in safety protocols and emergency procedures.
16. Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to safety and operational standards.
Financial Management & Performance
17. Monitor departmental performance against budget and implement corrective actions as needed.
18. Analyze financial reports and operational data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
19. Participate in the development of capital expenditure plans and manage project execution within budget and timeline constraints.
20. Control departmental expenses including payroll, utilities, tools, and supplies.
Team Leadership & Development
21. Build and lead a skilled, motivated, and service-oriented engineering team.
22. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
23. Conduct regular performance reviews and support career development through training and mentorship.
24. Ensure effective communication across the department and with other hotel teams to support seamless operations.
