An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Democratic Services team as a Democratic Services Assistant, providing a joint service to Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council.
A varied and rewarding role, our Democratic Services team plays a vital part in administering the Council's governance processes. The team organises and supports all formal committee meetings of the Council, ensuring they function in accordance with statutory and constitutional requirements. We provide governance advice to officers and members, as well as managing the decision-making process more generally.
You will be responsible for undertaking a variety of administrative duties for our small, busy and friendly office. You will also offer support to the Mayor of Worthing and The Chair of Adur.
Due to the nature of the post and after training, you will need to be confident working on your own, be an excellent communicator and have confidence to liaise with Senior Officers and Councillors.
Good organisation skills are essential and you will need to have proven administrative skills, an adaptable outlook and an ability to use initiative. The detailed nature of the work demands a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. You should also have experience of word processing applications.
As part of your role you will be required to occasionally attend planned weekend and evening events during the year.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent organisational and administrative skills, meticulous attention to detail and will have the ability to respect the confidential nature of the work. You will be able to work as part of a team but also have the ability to work on your own initiative.
