Overview
We are recruiting for an Interaction Designer (Content and Engagement) to work in the Content and Engagement team within the Cyber Operations function of NHS England.
The Content and Engagement team is responsible for delivering awareness campaigns about cyber security policies and principles, and supports the understanding and adoption of services and tools across the wider health and care sector to evolve collective cyber resilience. Our work spans national, regional and local organisations, interacting with key functions including communication and engagement, emergency response, information governance, technology and infrastructure, and clinical teams.
The Cyber Operations sub‑directorate consists of four operational areas:
* Cyber Security Operations Unit (CSOU) – CSOC & SIO
* Cyber Delivery Unit (CDU)
* Cyber Improvement Programme
* Chief Information Security Office Function (CISO)
Responsibilities
* Manage proactive and reactive information and engagement needs to deliver strategic impact, including corporate initiatives, high‑quality, user‑centred content aligned to major programme priorities, and track performance with key metrics.
* Oversee editorial processes and ensure timely delivery under changing requirements and budget constraints.
* Support cyber incident response through sensitive stakeholder engagement, both internal and external to the organisation.
* Use evidence, research and prototyping to inform decisions and visualise service or policy changes – distilling complex data into simple and engaging formats.
* Use appropriate tools and methods to ensure content is engaging and performs to meet team objectives.
* Communicate complex concepts clearly, applying accessibility, content standards and legal considerations.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Human‑centred approach to public and internal facing services and applications, creating effective content and engagement activities based on user research and delivered across appropriate channels.
* Proficiency in agile delivery, iterative methods and digital tools to develop innovative and workable solutions to complex problems.
* Sound judgement and data analysis to make decisions in fast‑paced environments.
* Experience in content design, behaviour change and stakeholder engagement, enabling support to technical teams with empathy and plain‑English translation.
* Ability to contribute to strategy, apply accessibility standards and collaborate across government to improve user experience.
* All NHS England cyber security personnel must hold a Security Clearance level (SC) as a minimum. Candidates must meet national security vetting requirements: five years continuous UK residency (three years in some cases with additional overseas checks). Failure to achieve clearance after offer will result in the job offer being withdrawn.
