CAD Technician
Salary: £13.46 - £14.42 per hour
Hours: Monday-Friday, 08:00-17:00 (40 hours per week, 1‑hour lunch)
Contract: Temporary, 12 weeks, potential to turn permanent
About the Role
We are recruiting a highly organised and detail‑focused CAD Technician to join a technical team working closely with clients, laboratory staff, and the shop floor. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands‑on technical work, problem‑solving, and creating precise 2D drawings using AutoCAD LT.
A structured progression route to Project Manager is available for high performers.
Please note: A CAD test will be required at interview stage.
Key Responsibilities
Review client drawings and bills of materials prior to installation to ensure all required information is provided for accurate surveying.
Liaise with Technical Officers and clients to clarify drawings, specifications, and any missing details.
Conduct accurate surveys of test specimens, recording measurements, notes, and photographic evidence.
Produce detailed elevations, section drawings, component schedules, and written descriptions of the test specimen.
Use AutoCAD LT, Microsoft Office, and internal systems to create and update technical documentation.
Provide training and support to colleagues undertaking surveyor duties.
Carry out any additional tasks required within the remit of the role.
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong experience and confidence using AutoCAD LT to produce 2D drawings.
Background in a similar technical role-preferably in construction, civil engineering, or a related technical field.
Experienced working with and interpreting technical drawings.
Good standard of education including English and Maths.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong IT capability including Microsoft Office.
Highly organised and able to meet tight deadlines.
Consistently produces accurate, high‑quality work.
Understanding and commitment to health & safety.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
HND (or equivalent) in Engineering, CAD Design, Scientific discipline, or similar.
Understanding of construction processes, technical risks, and on‑site requirements.
