Role: Control of Works
Location: BP Pangbourne
Job Description: Control of Works based on the BP Pangbourne, reporting to the Control of Works Supervisor. The role will be to manage safety (minimum IOSH required) of all works across site, to issue permits for disciplines including hot works, working at height, excavation etc (training will be provided), and to provide health and safety guidance to the technical, facilities and project teams. Candidate is expected to review and comment on RAMs in a suitable and effective manner, and to write Method statements and Risk Assessments. The role will require some travelling to London, Milton Keynes and Pangbourne; other sites may be added in the future. The individual should have an excellent understanding of Health and Safety and experience in issuing permits, with FM sector experience. They should be proactive, able to work in a team, have good communication skills, a keen desire to learn and understand, be approachable, have logical thinking, adapt to site requirements and be comfortable approaching anyone undertaking works to carry out safety conversations. Remote support for other UK sites and SME support to aid them as required. Ongoing training and support to upskill the candidate to meet requirements to be an appointed person in their disciplines. Contracted hours are 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, 40 hours a week.
Responsibilities
* Walk the site and monitor low risk activities
* Issue high risk permits and continually monitor through the day
* Conduct safety conversations of works taking place on site
* Work with other Control of Work APs
* Demonstrate good understanding of Word, Excel and other IT programs
* Add contractors to the site access system (Smartsheet)
* Filing permits and associated paperwork
* Undertake specific training as per site BP processes
* Carry out audits on the site permit system
* Carry out audits at other BP sites
* Review/assess RAMs and provide comments based on current legislation
* Write RAMs for the technical department
* Be able to stop works if unsafe
* Engage with contractors to ensure RAMs are read, understood and signed
* Escalate issues to the Control of Works Supervisor
* Inspect work areas for safe handover at end of the day
* Carry out weekly plantroom inspections
Qualifications & Requirements
* Excellent understanding of Health and Safety legislation (IOSH required; NEBOSH beneficial)
* Experience in working at height, hot works, etc.
* Excellent communication skills
* Desire to learn and retain knowledge
* Self-motivated, resourceful, proactive and able to work under pressure
* Confident decision maker
* PC literate with MS Office skills
* Ability to organize tasks and manage assigned work
* Understanding of engineering and FM
* Able to provide constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement
* Works well within a team and can work under pressure
* Minimum of 3 years working within the FM industry including technical department
* IOSH or equivalent Health and Safety training
* Preferably IPAF, PASMA
Hours, Travel & Extras
Contracted hours are 08:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday, 40 hours a week. There will be training provided to upskill the candidate to meet requirements to be an appointed person in their disciplines. Ongoing training and support. Role may require support outside core hours, with overtime paid.
