Job Overview

Edgbaston High School for Girls is looking for an experienced and motivated Teacher to join our PE Department and to inspire the next generation of sporting prowess. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and willing to share their passion for sport in general. They will have a very positive attitude and will be a great role model to our students. They will participate in the high class delivery of PE curriculum lessons, co-curricular clubs and in home and away fixtures across our Senior and Prep Schools.

We would be especially pleased to hear from applicants who are experienced in teaching Netball and Swimming. A NRASTC qualification would be beneficial, although training can be provided.

The PE Department

Our mission is to deliver a broad, inclusive, and inspiring Physical Education curriculum that fosters a lifelong love of physical activity and sport, whether competing at national level or enjoying a friendly activity together. We aim to nurture healthy, active lifestyles by encouraging students throughout our Prep and Senior schools to engage in physical activity both in and beyond school.

Our excellent facilities include a swimming pool, equipped gym and fitness suite, dance studio, floodlit astroturf, athletics track, cricket square, outdoor courts and sports pavilion.

Our diverse and inclusive club provision offers every pupil the opportunity to explore and develop their passions. Whether it's enjoying a friendly game of badminton, taking part in Couch to 5K, learning a new skill, or receiving personalised 1:1 coaching to complement their pathway sessions beyond school, the focus is always on enjoyment and personal growth. Led by dedicated sports specialists and supported by inspirational school captains, our clubs create a stimulating environment where pupils feel motivated, supported, and empowered to thrive.

The Small Print

This position is a full-time maternity cover, starting in January 2025. It is initially a fixed term position for a year (Spring, Summer, Autumn Terms). Teaching is mainly in the senior school (KS3 & 4) but there is also an expectation that the successful candidate will also teach a weekly KS2 Games (Netball) lesson.

Every employee at EHS is a valued member of the team, and staff wellbeing is important. Employee benefits include a generous employer pension; on-site parking; use of the gym and pool; training opportunities; delicious lunches prepared by our onsite catering team; access to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens for employees and their families; and access to an Employee Assistance Programme.

Interviews will take place at Edgbaston High School for Girls during the week commencing 6th October. Successful candidates will be invited to a formal interview and to prepare a lesson based on a specific brief. There will also be an opportunity to tour the School on the day.

To comply with KCSIE, Edgbaston High School for Girls is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers, online checks and Disclosure and Barring Services.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

Edgbaston High School is an equal opportunities employer.
