In this role you will support the band 7 dietitian and manage your own caseload at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, providing comprehensive nutritional care for oncology patients across a diverse range of cancer types and treatments.
Responsibilities
* Support the band 7 dietitian and manage own caseload.
* Rotate through areas such as lung, upper GI, head and neck, HPB, gynaecology, surgery, haematology, acute admissions, and other inpatient and outpatient services.
* Plan, organise and prioritise patient‑related and professional demands.
* Conduct nutritional assessments of oncology patients using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and dietary data, considering social, ethnic, prognosis and treatment factors.
* Provide specialised dietary advice and lifestyle changes using advanced counselling and communication skills.
* Diagnose malnutrition and/or risk of re‑feeding syndrome and liaise with consultants to optimise treatment outcomes.
* Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings to give expert guidance on nutritional support.
* Coordinate with nursing, AHPs, catering and other staff on implementing dietary prescriptions.
* Prescribe evidence‑based dietary regimens and manage, monitor and reevaluate treatment plans.
* Initiate, facilitate and coordinate the set‑up of home enteral feeding for safe discharge.
* Refer patients for further monitoring or therapeutic support after transfer or discharge.
* Work with the catering department to provide suitable meals for oncology patients.
* Write, deliver and evaluate internal and external education and training on oncology nutrition for staff and patients.
* Act as a clinical educator in the ABC model of student dietetic placements.
* Take an active role in research, development, implementation and audit of departmental resources such as diet sheets, policies and standards.
* Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up‑to‑date documentation according to local and national standards.
* Record and submit patient data and statistics for service planning and annual reports.
* Order, deliver and monitor specialist prescribable nutritional supplements.
* Attend and lead departmental, professional update meetings and trust nutrition meetings as required.
* Ensure own clinical professional development (CPD) to maintain competency and best practice.
