Job Overview
We are seeking a Chartered/Senior Bridge Engineer to join our Bridges and Civils team in the Transportation business. Your work will shape the future of transportation across the UK and Ireland, including projects such as the A9 Dualling, Network Rail’s CP7 Maintenance Programme, East Airdrie Link Road, and N28 Cork to Ringaskiddy. The role also supports non-transportation civil engineering projects internationally.
Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality civil and structural designs for new constructions, renewals, maintenance, and assessments.
- Collaborate with national and international design teams to create sustainable impacts.
- Manage the production and review of design documentation, including sketches, drawings, calculations, reports, and specifications.
- Conduct independent technical work and provide guidance to junior staff.
- Lead teams in design, assessment, and maintenance of structural projects, providing input on multi‑disciplinary projects.
- Develop and agree scopes and manage the internal technical supply chain, including budgets, programme and quality of deliverables.
- Use analytical skills to propose engineering solutions and make reliable engineering judgment.
- Lead bids and tenders, winning work and developing client relationships.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional qualification (CEng/IEng) and membership of the ICE or IStructE.
- Experience working with key clients such as Transport Scotland, National Highways, Network Rail, local authorities, major contractors and developers.
- Good understanding of design standards (Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW, Network Rail standards).
- Practical knowledge of bridge design, maintenance and assessment.
- Experience with structural analysis software (LUSAS, MIDAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
- Track record of innovation in design and management of highway structures.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Project management skills, commercial awareness, financial control, and ability to deliver across a range of contract types.

Security Clearance
This role may require security clearance. Offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV).
