The Role Reporting to the Team Supervisor the main duties of a CNC Machinery operative are to use various types of machinery available to produce sheet metal components. Typical equipment employed would be CNC turret punching, laser cutting, and both automatic and manual press brake folding etc. (operation of other types of machinery available dependent on customer requirement). The position requires a focus on company quality standards whilst meeting both efficiency and productivity targets. The successful candidate will need to be flexible, undertaking a variety of processes depending on customer demand, challenge personal performance and excel in developing new skills to support the team and deliver consistent results. Working hours: Monday-Friday, 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10pm-6am weekly rotating (days, afternoons, nights) Working style: On - site Responsibilities Be proficient in the use of CNC press-brakes, punches, and laser machines; this would involve both setting and operating. Operation of other types of machinery dependent on customer requirement. Be proficient in the use of measuring equipment, i.e., protractors, measuring tapes etc. To confidently be able to interpret 2D drawings in both blank format and folded views and be able to think and work in 3-dimensional space. Operate the various production machinery as required through training, and ancillary equipment such as lifting equipment, fork trucks and pallet stackers. Use both drawings and the production system to check the quality and quantity of components and determine whether components are suitable for assembly. Load or create CNC programs as required. Load relevant tooling and then produce component accurately to drawing and relevant standards. Book components to stock and correct stock for any losses (DMR’s). Be accurate in logging the processing times taken by booking on/off works orders. Stack components appropriately for onwards progress to next operation, assembly, or dispatch. Liaise with others to ensure continuous flow of pallets, trolleys, stillages and parts. To undertake all basic machine startup checks including maintenance, guard operation and tooling checks. Log and record any machine faults via the maintenance system. Maintain an excellent standard of housekeeping at both the machine and immediate production area. Participate and contribute to daily SQDP meetings. Contribute to continuous improvement, productivity and health & safety. The Person Essential: Good people skills – effective at building working relationships, a real team player. Good problem - solving skills. Experience of working with IT systems. Good level of experience of CNC machinery. Good organisation and time management skills. Demonstrate a good understanding and ability, able to follow set instructions for safety and quality. Good understanding of PPE and manual handling techniques. Be willing to assist or train others if required. Be flexible a reasonable amount of overtime will be expected. Good numeracy and some level of computer literacy will be required but specific training will be provided. A good standard of English literacy and Mathematics (GCSE or equivalent). Pallet stacker and fork truck (training required but can be provided). Desirable: Previous experience of CNC turret punching, laser cutting, automatic or press brake folding machines. Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques. BTEC or VRQ qualification in an engineering discipline. NVQ level 3.
