Messaging Engineer £55000 GBP Onsite WORKING Location: Basingstoke, Central London, Greater London - United Kingdom Type: Permanent 3rd Line Messaging Applications Engineer Location: Basingstoke (On-site, 5 Days Per Week) Salary: Up to £55,000 Job Type: Permanent Key Responsibilities • Provide 3rd line support for secure messaging systems within a highly regulated, mission-critical environment • Manage and resolve incidents via service desk tools in line with SLA and ITIL-aligned processes • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot legacy messaging infrastructure including Exchange 2003, X.400, and Nexor X500 DSA • Perform root cause analysis on recurring problems and support change implementation across platforms • Liaise directly with customer representatives and internal teams to support secure information services • Assist in the transition of services to virtualised infrastructure where required (e.g., VMware 5/5.5) • Support documentation, SOP creation, and knowledge base updates for supported systems Requirements • Experience in secure messaging environments (SMTP, X.400, and/or X.500 protocols) • Knowledge of Nexor DSA, address book replication, and Exchange 2003 • Strong UNIX/Linux experience, including shell scripting and Solaris 10 • Experience with Oracle 8-10g in operational support contexts • Understanding of Interoperable C4I Services (ICS) desirable • Ability to work within secure teams and maintain high levels of documentation and change control • Must be eligible for SC Clearance (British nationals preferred due to clearance requirements) Desirable Skills • Familiarity with Active Directory and Microsoft Server 2003 • VMware (v5/v5.5) exposure or willingness to train • Knowledge of ITIL-aligned service delivery • Willingness to upskill in legacy platforms and secure architecture practices • Background in supporting MoD, Defence, or other National Security environments Package & Benefits • Up to £55,000 base salary • 10% DV Bonus up to 5% performance bonus • 10% employer pension contribution • Private medical and dental insurance • Flexible working post-onboarding (aligned to rota and security protocols) • Extensive development and cross-skilling pathways within secure infrastructure teams Want to support one of the UK's most secure and essential messaging platforms?
