The team that you will work with you is talented, motivated, and subject to current review in line with BAPT guidance revisions. We are looking for a candidate who will be visible and both patient and staff focused to work within this excellent team.This is the perfect opportunity for a nurse who wishes to pursue a CNS role in Paediatric Diabetes.

For internal applications, this post could be considered as a secondment with your direct line managers support.Main duties of the jobThe Paediatric Diabetes team is a multidisciplinary service consisting of consultant staffing, Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist Support, Diabetes Dietitian support, Registered Nursing Associate, admin service support, and input from the Child Psychiatry Team (CAPPLT) providing a comprehensive service to all patients with diabetes, whether this be newly diagnosed, or maintaining their health following a diagnosis. The service operates Monday – Friday and provides Outpatient, Psychotherapy, Psychology, and ambulating services to all patients within the cohort, as well as providing support to external stakeholders such as local GP practices and schools, and the service works in tandem with other Diabetes team within hospitals in the North Central London area. The team also provide out of hours telephone ‘on-call’ support on a rostered basis.Working for our organisationNMUH North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Hospital Trust (NMUH) is one of London’s busiest healthcare providers, providing hospital care and community services for the 350,000 people living in Enfield, Haringey and beyond.

Our specialist services include HIV, cardiology, blood disorders, diabetes, fertility, sickle cell and thalassemia. In addition to a full range of cancer diagnosis and treatment services, the Helen Rollason Cancer Support Centre is based on-site and provides services to support cancer patients’ wellbeing. We also provide community services and have a dedicated 0-19 service for children and young people in Enfield so that they can get the best possible start in life.

This includes health visitors and school nurses who are delivering the national Healthy Child Programme, which provides a structured framework for the delivery of key interventions to support the health and wellbeing of children and families from 0 to 5 and school aged children from 5-19. The 0-19 service aims to improve pathways and partnerships with services in the hospital and deliver excellent care for the children and families. For more information, please access the following link: https://www.northmid.nhs.uk/Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesA full list of duties and responsibilities will be found within the job description and requirements for the role can be found within the person specification.Person specificationEducation and qualificationsEssential criteria- RSCN/RN Child Branch.- Mentorship qualification or equivalent- Level 3 child protection training- Evidence of continuing professional development within specialty- Relevant Degree in nursing or equivalentDesirable criteria- Master’s degree or workings towards this.- Nurse prescribing qualification.Skills and AptitudesEssential criteria- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.- Project management knowledge and skills.- Sound knowledge of the principles and practice of specialist care.- Extensive Paediatric nursing experience, including working with children and young people with Type 1 Diabetes.- Experience of MDI regimens, CSII, pump therapy, and continuous glucose monitoring systems both for pump and non-pump users.- Experience of working beyond the confines of the hospital environment relevant to the client group.- Experience of leading on change- Working knowledge of community health care.- Awareness of Paediatric Diabetes best practice tariff (BAPT).- Ability to manage change, both personally and as a facilitator.- Computer literate: able to use MS Office packages and manage databases.- Awareness of current NHS issues and pressures.- Awareness of issues surrounding governance and quality initiatives.- Ability to critically analyse and apply research to the clinical setting.- Management/organisational/prioritisation skills.- Ability to work autonomously and independently.Desirable criteria- Ability to recognise the contribution of MDT staffing.- Ability to lead change and innovations in specialist practice.ExperienceEssential criteria- Extensive Paediatric nursing experience.- Extensive experience of working with inpatients/outpatients relevant to the speciality.- Experience of teaching on formal and informal education programmes/conferences/presentations.- Experience of working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.- Recent experience of audit.Desirable criteria- Experience of nurse led clinics.- Clinical supervision experience.- Experience in research.Personal QualitiesEssential criteria- Kind and respectful to patients, families and staff.- Self-motivated and able to influence and empower others to deliver safe, patient-focused care in specialist practice.- Act as a role model to lead the way in specialist care.- Ability to innovate and create flexible working practices.- Leadership and persuasive skills.- Demonstrable evidence of being able and being willing to understand values of respect, kindness, excellence, and safety, with behaviours which reinforce these values.
