Job Description:
The candidate will work on improving race car characterization and performance with an aerodynamic focus. This will involve various tasks such as wind tunnel testing, CFD simulations, data analysis, surfacing, quality control, and creating tools for the race team. Part-time travel will be required.
Roles and Responsibilities:
* Provide guidance and recommendations for aerodynamic performance gains and optimization
* Use CAD to create models and surfaces
* Apply computational fluid dynamics tools to understand airflow characteristics and improve performance
o Pre-process surfaces for simulation
o Develop all CFD models and perform all simulations
o Post-process results to understand the impact of model changes
* Divide general aerodynamic development work with other Aero and Performance Engineers
* Reduce and repackage testing data for consumption by the race team and for general simulation tools
* Correlate wind tunnel and CFD results to track data
* Work with our partners to compare and interpret their aero testing results
* Compile technical reports, present simulation results, and provide effective suggestions on design modifications.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering along with 3+ years’ experience in a relevant field. Experience in the following areas will be an advantage:
* Minimum 3+ years of experience working with CFD solvers, pre and post processors (Star-CCM+, Ansa, etc.)
* Experienced user of CAD software (NX, CATIA, SolidWorks)
* Basic coding for data analysis & processing (Python, Matlab, VBA)
* Other Software: MS Office Suite, Cosworth Toolbox
* Experience with wind tunnel testing
* Composite design and surfacing skills.
* Experience with metrology and scanning measurement systems
* Basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics.
