Document Reader/Exhibits Officer - Major Investigations Room - 31758

We’re seeking a Document Reader/Exhibits Officer to join our Major Investigations Team. You will read and review documents, identify lines of enquiry, raise and allocate actions, and assess returned actions for completeness—ensuring high-quality case files that support legal action by the Environment Agency.

You’ll have an understanding or background in major investigations together with experience/knowledge of HOLMES or other major investigation case management systems.


Desirable

* Knowledge/understanding of Major Incident Room Standardised Administration Procedures (MIRSAP).
* PIP 2 (Professionalising Investigation Programme) Qualification
* Experience and knowledge of Exhibit Management
* Working knowledge of investigative legislation, for example Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.
* Experience of conducting criminal investigations

We’re looking for someone with knowledge of evidence collection and experience managing large volumes of investigative material using the Case Management System. Strong IT skills, attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication are essential.

There is a requirement to undertake an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support. This may attract an additional payment, and full training will be available to support you with your incident role.

To undertake this role successful candidates will be expected to pass NPPV2 and SC vetting processes.


Team context

The Major Investigations team is part of the National Environmental Crime Unit which manages major and serious investigations into environmental offending, including waste criminality and water-based investigations.

This is a growing area of criminality, and the Major Investigations Team has been established to manage material generated during such investigations, handling it according to the appropriate legislation and promoting best practice across our organisation.

* Good IT skills with a keen eye for detail
* Ability to manage your own workload
* Be a self-starter and work well in a team
* High regard for Health and Safety practices

The base location for this role is Birmingham, but we welcome flexible working patterns offering hybrid working, with an expectation of attending the office in Birmingham at least once a week.
