About the organisation: SRUC (Scotland's Rural College) is a specialist higher education institution delivering tertiary education, research and consultancy. SRUC's principal purpose is to advance education, science, research, and environmental protection and improvement in rural and land-based industries, both domestically and internationally. About the team: The purpose of this role is to work with leaders across SRUC and SAC Consulting, leading and supporting the establishment, development and growth of the Crop Science Innovation Centre. This will include leading growth and delivering service excellence across SRUC applied crop science research, field trials and SAC Consulting including developing novel income streams. About the opportunity: In this role you will be required to: Work with the deputy head of school natural and social sciences to deliver research impact and knowledge exchange Lead the growth of SRUC's arable services (field-based role) Deliver the underpinning evidence based arable services support required by SAC Consulting's independent agronomy service Lead SRUC and SAC Consulting's arable/crop science stakeholder engagement, acting as SRUC's reputational champion for crop science. Lead and develop arable crop science knowledge exchange services, maintaining strong connections with both SAC Consulting and SRUC Research Develop and maintain strong industry and academic partnerships Play a pivotal role in leading the development of new products and services External facing industry engagement Communicate the value of SRUC and SAC Consulting crop science innovation centre and wider arable services to national and international partners Lead the provision of the underpinning expertise and technical support for SAC Consulting's independent agronomy service Deliver impact and improved productivity for farmers and the wider sector through translation of research to economically viable sector solutions Lead industry and policy stakeholder engagement for SAC Consulting and SRUC Field based role leading the development of applied research programmes Work closely with the wider SRUC team in the growth and development of SRUC's commercial trials service Professional writing including funding bids, expert briefings Lead SRUC/SAC Consulting's external facing arable and crop science services, including national and international sector engagement and negotiating with external partners on SRUC/SAC Consulting's behalf. Engage with internal strategic communications team, and externally with relevant press/media representatives Project based budgetary responsibility up to £1 - 2 million p/a Whilst this role will have an office base, it is anticipated that there will be a substantial amount of time working in the field alongside the SAC Consulting agronomy team & trials teams. A full driving licence is required due to the geographically dispersed nature of SRUC and SAC Consulting's sites primarily in south east Scotland and north east Scotland. Intermittent travel further afield including the rest of the UK and occasionally internationally. Minimum qualifications: The ideal candidate will be qualified to at least SCQF Level 9 (e.g. Degree level qualifications), in a relevant area or relevant professional experience. Relevant postgraduate qualifications or work-based qualifications (such as BASIS/FACTS) Experience and knowledge required: Proven experience in a similar innovation related role Experience of working in a research environment with a strong focus on industry led research Experience of working in a customer facing environment in a field based or equivalent role Experience in the delivery of technical service excellence Experience of setting and delivering business strategy Understanding of UK arable research funding landscape/institutions Full clean driving license as travel to remote areas not covered by public transport may be required in this role.
