Contract: Permanent

Are you a dynamic journalist or media specialist who wants to tell the story of Greater Manchester’s Bee Network?

This is a brilliant opportunity to join a respected News and Media team, driving forward Greater Manchester’s pioneering approach to public transport.

You’ll play a leading role in a talented team, managing our busy press office taking a creative and proactive approach to telling the story of how the Bee Network is underpinning the city region’s growth agenda.

If you're passionate about public service, thrive on pace and variety, and are as comfortable securing great coverage as you are responding to live operational issues, we want to hear from you.

Your Role

We are looking for a self-starter with a strong track record in journalism or media relations; someone with a nose for a good story and a clear understanding of how local, regional and national media work ideally gained in a press office or newsroom.

You’ll be working closely with the Media Lead to manage a respected and responsive press office that positively positions both the Bee Network and all areas of Greater Manchester’s transport policy.

To do that, you’ll have excellent writing skills, impeccable judgement when giving advice to senior spokespeople, and the ability to spot opportunities and risks. Passionate about creating a high-performing team, you’ll also mentor and support colleagues to learn from you and grow their own careers.

Drawing on your ability to work highly collaboratively, you’ll work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders from across Greater Manchester and the UK. They include the Mayor of Greater Manchester, our Transport Commissioners, our local authorities, and wider city region organisations such as emergency services.

Whether drafting press releases, developing media campaigns, organising press events or capturing content for social media, no two days will be the same.

Who are we?

This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of a dedicated media team that is a core part of TfGM’s Communications function. You will join a high-performing, friendly and welcoming team, where your wellbeing and professional development will be prioritised, with training and on the job learning available to you.

You will also get the chance to get out on the ground and help our passengers when new services and products are launched or into the community as part of our ‘giving something back’ initiative.

What you’ll bring

What you do and how you do it is important whatever type of role you work in at TfGM and even small behaviours and actions can have a really big impact. At TfGM, our behaviours bring to life our values of Deliver, Care and Adapt .

We are looking for someone with extensive experience and knowledge of the media, whether that’s from your time in the newsroom or working in a busy press office. Calm under pressure, you must have demonstrable experience of delivering results and proven crisis/issues management experience. Youll have strong experience of advising senior stakeholders, be able to build strong and lasting relationships and be passionate about staying across emerging trends and opportunities across the media landscape.

What we can offer you

This is a permanent, full-time position in one of the most ambitious, exciting and high-profile city regions in the UK, where transport is at the heart of the growth agenda, with a salary of £47,539 - £52,866 per annum depending on skills and experience.
