As a Safety Learning Facilitator you will become a vital part of the RNLI safety team and a key person in helping us to improve how the RNLI operates safely and continuously improves. The safety team leads the way in which the RNLI learns as an organisation and implements its safety lessons to ensure a safe, compliant and sustainable environment for our volunteers and staff. Delivering across the UK and Ireland the team continue to lead the RNLI’s proactive and just approach to learning from incidents both afloat and ashore. Recognising the importance of human factors in improving safety performance, it’s our role to put learning and continual improvement at the heart of our operations and activities to keep our people safe – whether that’s while fundraising, educating members of the public, building lifeboats, lifeguarding a beach or saving lives at sea. The RNLI is a charity that provides a 24-hour search and rescue service in the UK and Ireland. Volunteers make up 95% of our organisation; supported by expert staff, all working together to help communities at home and abroad save lives. Your role Enjoy being a crucial enabler and key team member supporting and influencing transformational safety learning and continuous improvement at the RNLI. As a Safety Learning Facilitator you will connect with multiple stakeholders and departments as a core member of the Safety Learning Team. Reporting into the Safety Learning Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in facilitating the way in which the RNLI analyses, learns, creates and shares its safety lessons to ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainable organisation. In this varied and engaging role you will be responsible for providing guidance and support to those inside and outside of the safety learning team, supporting and influencing the safety learning process, from incident, through review to collaborating and shaping recommendations. Bringing energy and enthusiasm you will support our Safety Learning Leads, occasionally deploying in direct support, you will facilitate both the progression of learning reviews through the lifecycle journey of the process, and the management of safety learning. There is a requirement to build trusting relationships across the RNLI, to ensure accuracy, brevity and clarity in written work and maintain strong interpersonal links with those the team support. The role provides opportunity to gain broad organisational insights, challenge convention and develop your potential. About you To be considered for the role of Safety Learning Facilitator, you will need to demonstrate: Experience in a planning, co-ordination, improvement or similar role where collaboration, consensus building, analysis, accuracy and timeliness are important. Understanding of operational activity in maritime, SAR, technical or similar domains, including terminology and safety language. Understanding or interest in human and organisational performance, including human factors and non-technical skills. High level of organisation skills and experience working with stakeholders at all levels of an organisation. Strong IT skills with experience using multiple data, analysis and mixed media systems to capture, share and extract information. Ability to coach others through processes to achieve desired outcomes. Experience in creating interesting and engaging narratives and stories based on fact to connect with wide and varied audiences across large and dispersed organisations. Diplomacy, tact, judgement and curiosity.
