Lead Chiller Engineer
We are looking for an experienced and driven Lead Chiller Engineer to take operational ownership of our clients fleet of chillers, air‑handling units and pumps, ensuring all assets are fully maintained, compliant, and ready for hire, particularly during peak seasonal demand.
This is a hands‑on leadership role, combining engineering expertise, fleet management and team development, with responsibility for productivity, technical standards and equipment availability.
About the Role
You will lead a small team of Chiller Engineers, overseeing workload allocation, performance, and technical output. You’ll ensure all equipment is repaired, maintained, winterised and prepared to a high standard before returning to the fleet. You’ll act as a technical authority on our chiller range, supporting internal teams with product knowledge, documentation accuracy and fault diagnosis, while managing spares, stock levels and parts ordering across depot and field operations. This role is key to driving operational excellence and ensuring our customers receive reliable, well‑presented and fully compliant equipment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, support and develop a small team of Chiller Engineers
* Allocate PPM and maintenance tasks and review outcomes
* Monitor team productivity against KPIs
* Oversee repairs, maintenance and winterisation of returning fleet assets
* Diagnose and repair faults on chillers and associated equipment
* Maintain accurate technical data sheets for all fleet equipment
* Ensure full compliance with F‑Gas and documentation requirements
* Support other depots with compliance and record keeping
* Order parts and manage stock both in‑depot and for field operations
* Liaise with internal departments to plan fleet availability, especially during summer peak season
* Ensure all equipment is clean, branded and hire‑ready to an excellent standard
* Maintain accurate records across all company computer systems
* Take full operational responsibility for chillers, AHUs, pumps and similar assets
About You – Skills & Experience
Essential
* Proven line management or team leadership experience
* F‑Gas certification
* City & Guilds / NVQ in Refrigeration
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in Refrigeration / Process Cooling
* Strong knowledge of chilled water systems
* Previous experience in the HVAC hire industry
* Fleet management experience
* System‑centric approach with strong documentation and compliance focus
* Full UK Driving LicenceExcellent work ethic and timekeeping
