We’re looking for a Senior Scientist to join us and play a key role in advancing our oncology and immuno‑oncology pipeline. You’ll design and deliver critical gene‑perturbation and phenotypic studies, support innovative cell‑based assay development, and work closely with multidisciplinary teams to drive decision‑making in early discovery. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive, detail‑driven scientist who thrives in a collaborative lab environment and is passionate about translating science into meaningful therapeutic progress.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Design, perform and interpret gene perturbation studies using tool compounds, gene knockdown and gene editing approaches in cancer cell lines, primary cells and immune-relevant co-culture systems

2. Conduct and interpret phenotypic analysis in cancer and immune cells including cell proliferation, apoptosis, colony formation

3. Review and critically appraise oncology and immunology literature and unpublished research to identify novel targets, signalling pathways and/or biomarkers

4. Demonstrate ability to solve problems and develop solutions independently

5. Work collaboratively within the Discovery Bioscience team and interact with multi-disciplinary research teams both internally and with external collaborators

6. Communicate efficiently, interpret and summarise data and present them to different audiences

7. Prioritise work according to project goals and take responsibility for the timely delivery of objectives

8. Maintain accurate and up to date electronic laboratory notebook

9. Maintain assigned laboratory equipment and/or duties

10. Perform all work demonstrating due care and attention to all health and safety and COSHH regulations

11. Keep up to date with state of the art technologies and knowledge of developments in cancer therapeutics with particular focus on immune-oncology

12. Highly committed, enthusiastic with a passion for learning

Key Technical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

13. PhD or equivalent in a biological science.

14. Postdoctoral experience (or equivalent) in oncology and/or immunology research.

15. Proven scientific leadership, with the ability to drive projects and influence research direction.

16. Industry research experience within pharma or biotech environments.

17. Expertise in target validation, including siRNA, shRNA, CRISPR, overexpression systems and tool compound use.

18. Strong knowledge of cell culture techniques.

19. Hands‑on experience with phenotypic assays, such as cell proliferation, apoptosis and colony‑forming assays

20. Solid understanding of immunology methodologies and their application in research.

21. Experience handling and maintaining primary cells.

22. Proficiency in cytometry techniques.
