Orthotics at West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre is a regional service, providing a full range of advice and orthotic rehabilitation for all levels of upper and lower limb loss including paediatric services.
The Clinical Lead Orthotist will be a highly specialist clinician, who will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to facilitate the provision of safe, high‑quality care for all our patients. They will ensure orthotic prescriptions for adults and children are suitable and cost‑effective. The Clinical Lead Orthotist will also be expected to support and manage other members of the team.
The post holder will have lead responsibility for a specialist orthotic caseload, working within the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (BAPO) professional guidelines and standards for Orthotics.
The Clinical Lead Orthotist, through the utilisation of highly specialist assessment skills and informed patient consent, will endeavour to ensure that the best possible orthotic treatment outcome is achieved for all patients and the patient function fully optimised.
Alongside this, they will need to work with members of the specialist multi‑disciplinary team and provide advice to wider West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre services and Community services as required.
Responsibilities
* Lead the development of service projects to enhance the quality of lifelong orthotic care for all patients.
* Manage and lead specific clinical and professional initiatives and service development projects within the service and liaise with other Orthotics professionals and relevant professional groups.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with the Service Clinical Manager (SCM), supporting them with Orthotic budgets and other related activities.
* Manage stock levels of equipment and supplies.
* Allocate work and supervise team members on a day‑to‑day basis.
* Provide supervisory responsibility for the Orthotists.
* Ensure efficient and effective use of resources to facilitate equitable and appropriate levels of orthotic care within financial resources.
* Ensure prescription choices are made within best clinical judgment in a cost‑effective manner to provide high quality, best value orthotic clinical care, including identifying and monitoring preferred suppliers.
* Deliver training on safe use of equipment.
