The Opportunity
We're looking for a
Principal Architect
to take the lead on high-impact digital transformation programmes across the UK public sector and healthcare space. This is a senior technical leadership position within a well-established consultancy environment, ideally suited to someone who thrives on shaping complex solutions, driving technical excellence, and mentoring others.
You'll be the strategic and technical authority across multi-team programmes, collaborating with C-level stakeholders and delivery teams alike to define architectural direction, resolve delivery challenges, and ensure that solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with client goals.
What You'll Be Doing
Leading the architecture and assurance of large-scale technology solutions across complex public sector programmes.
Collaborating with customer stakeholders to define solution architecture, non-functional requirements, technical strategy, and delivery roadmaps.
Coaching, developing, and guiding solution architects and engineering leads across multiple programmes.
Working alongside account and delivery managers to shape account strategy and identify opportunities for growth.
Providing architectural oversight, setting technical standards, and supporting continuous improvement.
Building credibility with senior stakeholders (including CxOs) and influencing decision-making through clear communication and technical authority.
What You'll Bring
Demonstrable experience leading solution architecture for major transformation projects (ideally in public sector, central government, or healthcare).
Strong background in designing modern, multi-tiered software systems using public cloud (e.g. AWS, Azure - PaaS, SaaS).
Comfortable managing architectural decisions across multiple delivery teams or programmes simultaneously.
Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical teams and business leaders.
Engineering background with a hands-on understanding of software development and delivery lifecycles.
Experience with non-functional requirements and balancing performance, scalability, security, and user needs.
Ability to influence commercial outcomes through sound technical design.
Experience managing and mentoring other architects or senior engineers in a consulting or delivery environment.
Desirable Experience
Participation in technology or architecture communities.
Proactive in thought leadership and sharing insights on emerging tech trends.
Familiarity with working in agile, user-centred, delivery-focused environments.
