This Linesperson position will report to the Lead Operational Engineer and will work within the UKPN Services directorate based in our Chatham office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £46,400.00 and a bonus of 3%.

If you are successful, you will need to undertake a medical and DBS reference check

Job Purpose

You will manage the delivery of network enhancement projects and / or restoration of electrical supplies on the UK Power Networks distribution system, carrying out repairs on the overhead lines

Responsibilities

10. Perform all work in connection with the construction, maintenance and report of Overhead lines and any associate plant and equipment, connections, and earthing, including cable laying and necessary excavation, backfill and reinstatement Overhead line service lines, pilots and catenaries, service termination equipment and connections thereto
11. Patrol overhead lines and reports defects and any work being performed in the vicinity of the line route.
12. Perform work on live 240/415v apparatus conductors or equipment following the appropriate safety rules.
13. You will perform live line work on overhead lines up to and including 33kv.
14. Install and connects, or disconnects and removes, or re-sites whole current metering.
15. Remove and replace links and fuses on the 240/415v network.
16. Use meters and instruments and record readings.
17. Help with resistance, thermal and height measurements on overhead lines.
18. Perform rigging, erect and inspect pre-formed scaffolds and pole and clip scaffolds.
19. You will perform tree felling and tree trimming.
20. Drive vehicles, clean them and perform roadworthiness checks.
21. Operate communications/data transmission and display equipment.
22. Operate mechanical aids and use portable equipment.
23. Switch, isolate and earth when authorised to do so.
24. Required to undertake standby on a contractual basis

Nature and Scope

You will work with the team to achieve the targets set out in the Performance Dashboard. You will work under your own initiative and demonstrate the ability to perform risk assessments to create a safe working environment.

Qualifications

25. LV & HV Authorised
26. SPN and/or EPN network competency certificate
27. City & Guilds 232 certificate
28. Complete self-risk assessments
29. Work as part of a team
30. To be prepared to train and learn new skills to perform the full range of tasks.
31. To have experience in the field of overhead line construction and maintenance.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
