This is a demanding role requiring a robust leader who can share their editorial and managerial vision to deliver the best possible content to our audiences.
Our department specialises in arts programming, delivering weekly editions of Radio 4’s Front Row and Take Four Books, alongside regular episodes of Loose Ends and Book Club. On Radio 3, we produce many hours of live instrumental and vocal music from concert venues across Scotland and Northern Ireland (where we partner with the Ulster Orchestra) and Jazz Record Requests. In the digital space, we make daily content for Radio 1 Dance and regular shows for Radio 3 Unwind.
Our factual teams are at the forefront of multi-part narrative podcast production delivering big hitters like The Gatekeepers and In Dark Corners. We make Radio 4’s Artificial Human and many single documentaries and short series for Radio 4, Radio 3 and the World Service. These programmes are regular features on award nomination and recipient lists around the world. In Belfast, we produce weekly editions of Pick of the Week. We also have a multi-award winning in-house drama and readings team responsible for titles like This Thing of Darkness, Mediation and fact and fiction abridgements for Book at Bedtime and Book of the Week.

You’re optimistic in times of change and able to communicate and drive progress across periods of transformation. You’re always looking for opportunities to try something new, motivating a team to deliver content of the highest quality whilst enjoying their work and feeling proud to be part of an inclusive and creative operation.
You’ll be well-versed in Editorial and Compliance Policies and know who to call on when you need advice. You’ll have a pro-active approach to Health and Safety on location with many productions happening out of BBC studios and you’ll consider the BBC’s sustainability targets when planning content with your team.
