The Role: Commercial Modelling Director - 6 month Fixed Term Contract

This role will reside within our Life business unit as part of the Change & Transformation team and more specifically within the Carrington Programme of activity. The overall Change team’s purpose being to provide oversight and assurance on all aspects of business change and transformation delivery for or impacting our Life business, whilst ensuring change and transformation delivery is aligned to both our Life and wider M&G strategy.

This role owns the end-to-end design and delivery of the strategic commercial business case model for the Carrington Programme. You will be responsible for leading the design of the business case, working with Senior Exco stakeholders across multiple functional teams (Life, Finance and Technology) and ensuring that it meets the different requirements of those teams. You will be expected to lead the build of the model, coaching more junior resource in best practice modelling techniques and lead the socialisation of the model outputs with the programme sponsors and Steering Committee, including at Exco level. You will work within the Carrington Programme team, with a dotted line to the Finance function to ensure that the business case model can provide a clear understanding of the Project and Run cost and ongoing expected commercial benefits when compared to existing budgets across the impacted functions.

The Portfolio Enablement team plays a pivotal role in translating the CEO’s vision into actionable transformation plans and enabling industry-leading delivery within the Chief Transformation Office. As a Strategic Commercial Modelling Director, you will lead the Portfolio Modelling capability in partnering with the business to understand and shape the Carrington Programme —providing key decision support to commercial negotiations with strategic suppliers and understanding of the impact of different delivery options using scenario modelling techniques.

Key responsibilities for this role:

1. Own the design, build and socialisation of the Strategic Business Case Model for Carrington; lead the development of the model design, working with senior Programme stakeholders across multiple functions to ensure that the model will capture and support understanding of the impact on costs and benefits from alternative delivery options in impacted areas.
2. Lead the business case storyboard development, as part of the wider Programme leadership, that will provide Exco level stakeholders with the understanding of the programme’s commercial impacts and the key choices and decisions that need to be made.
3. In conjunction with the Project Sponsor, communicate the outcomes/benefits of the project across the organisation to garner support and buy-in.
4. Create and maintain high quality commercial model, including design documentation and outputs that support both Programme and Finance requirements.
5. Present business case outputs to senior Exco level stakeholders to ensure clear understanding of the assumptions and implications of choices available, to inform commercial decision making.
6. Lead the workstream alignment to wider Programme delivery timelines and agreement of deliverables at each stage with Programme Lead and Sponsors
7. Lead junior team members (as required) and provide them with direction, training and confidence to deliver to ensure that the team delivers the required benefits and outcomes within the specified tolerances of time, cost, quality, scope, benefit and risk.
8. Adhere to governance standards, including Project Change Standard and guidelines, maintaining accurate RACI and RAID logs and Service Now records.
9. Produce timely updates on progress and support the PMO function in collation of all relevant mandatory documentation such that it is completed and signed off at the appropriate stages during the life of the project and establish appropriate governance to reflect the complexity of the project as required.
10. Monitor and report progress to the impacted stakeholders (e.g. sponsor(s), Programme manager, Change Programme Directors, steering committee) including ongoing business case viability.
11. Independently identify and take ownership of issues, risks and dependencies, making recommendations to mitigate the risk or to reduce/remove issues. Escalate where appropriate to maintain progress towards project delivery and act as an escalation point on behalf of the Project Sponsor.
12. Complete handover to BAU or other Change delivery Portfolios, and business benefits realisation activities to close off projects.
13. Manage resource planning and motivate the project team to ensure a high standard of output, focused on customer satisfaction and delivery through developing others through providing ongoing guidance, mentoring or coaching
14. Manage relationships with required teams e.g. Technology, external suppliers and other business functions to achieve timely delivery.
15. Support the Lead Programme Management Officer in establishing appropriate governance and assuring that the Project Change Standard is appropriately applied.

Skills and Competencies

16. Best in class technical business case modelling capability.
17. Leading the socialisation of outputs at a very senior level to facilitate discussions and decision making
18. Excellent understanding of operations and finance
19. Strong understanding of technology
20. Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders to understand strategic vision and translate it into clear, actionable model design that enable successful delivery.
21. Confident and effective communicator (both written and verbal) across all levels of the organisation. Confident in presenting to medium to large sized meetings with senior stakeholders, identifying key requirements to enable progress and inform decisions.
22. Ability to motivate, influence and constructively challenge where appropriate.
23. Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across the business and with external parties including key delivery partners.
24. Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage resources, priorities and deliverables to tight deadlines.
25. Passionate about developing a work environment that embraces and values diversity.
26. Attention to detail and the ability to articulate complex ideas/concepts to stakeholders.
27. Ability to anticipate, prioritise and resolve issues using problem solving and analytical skills.
28. Well-developed interpersonal skills, leading by example and exercising good judgment and decision making skills.

Experience:

29. Proven experience of leading the delivery of complex operational and / or commercial modelling across multiple organisations, with decision support required across multiple functions
30. Working in a business case and / or commercial analytics team in Big 4 or industry role
31. Experience presenting to and working with senior stakeholders (including Exco level)
32. Operations and finance experience (essential)
33. Technology experience (beneficial)
34. Experience of leading teams to develop commercial models, coaching others and working across dotted line responsibilities to deliver with a programme structure
35. Experience of working in a highly controlled and regulated environment
36. Working effectively with stakeholders at different levels
