Lead IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist

An exciting position within the specialism of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) has become available within Dorset County Hospital.
This permanent position is ideal for a nurse with a strong background in IBD, who is ready to take on a leadership role within an established team. You will have the opportunity to further develop your expertise, with training, supervision, and opportunities to attend relevant study sessions provided by both nursing and medical supervisors.

Key responsibilities of the job
* To lead & participate in advanced nursing & multi-disciplinary services related to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
* The post holder will provide high standards of evidence-based patient centred care within the IBD specialist area of nursing care, ensuring the efficient running of the service.
* The post holder will undertake thorough holistic patient assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating treatment, monitoring response to treatment and provide education and support to patients.
* To post holder will establish, develop and lead the evolving IBD service to enable a fully holistic & innovative approach.
Main duties of the job
* To provide an autonomous inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) service using expert clinical judgement & knowledge of the specialty.
* To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice & implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports nursing practice within IBD.
* To lead & innovate nursing practice within IBD both within the Trust & through local networks.
* To develop IBD guidelines, protocols & policies for the Trust & local services.
* To develop staff within the IBD team providing support, advice, formal & informal education.
* To develop support strategies, and resources for patients to promote self-management of their IBD.
* To develop & lead educational strategies for all level health care professionals & service users within the IBD service
* To hold accountability for the running of the IBD service & the provision of patient care.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
* Ability to develop training programmes & for other health care professionals, patients and families in the care of inflammatory bowel disease
* The skills & abilities to set up & coordinate educational support groups for patients & relatives
* Ability to design, implement and audit multidisciplinary standards of care or involvement in the implementation of clinical benchmarking
* Advanced communication skills and ability to negotiate
* Good presentation skills & teaching style
* Ability to problem solve and prioritise and to work to deadlines
* Ability to establish a role and develop collaborative working relationships within different teams
* Ability to work autonomously managing own caseload
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
* Experience as a Band 6 in an acute nursing setting
* Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team caring for patients with complex inflammatory bowel disease needs
* Knowledge in managing and supporting patients with inflammatory bowel disease
* Evidence of proven, ongoing professional development
* Teaching/Supervision of other health care professionals
* Knowledge of current advances in inflammatory bowel disease
* Knowledge of research and audit methodology & Principle Investigator oversight of research trials
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
* RGN
* Specialist Inflammatory Bowel Disease experience & training e.g. BSc Gastroenterology
* ENB 998 - or other teaching qualifications
* Educated to degree level
* Educated to or working towards masters level
