Head of Environmental
Location: Cardiff, UK.
Overview
Overall responsibility for daily operations, meeting client and contract‑specific requirements efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage daily operations in line with contract requirements and budgets.
* Oversee office/site staff, ensuring health & safety, quality and environmental requirements are met as per the MSS Environmental Technical and Quality Manual.
* Align labour capacity/availability with contract needs, short to long term.
* Maintain and develop existing and new client relationships.
* Identify expenditure trends and implement cost‑saving measures.
* Communicate changes through regular staff meetings and encourage reporting of issues, near‑misses and improvements.
* Measure operational performance against KPIs to ensure delivery and continuous improvement.
* Track and manage commercial performance against budgets, including forecasting to support regular updates to SMT/MD.
* Lead commercial budget delivery and overall commercial performance.
* Coordinate with Contract Management and Technical teams to ensure efficient planning and delivery and verify site staff competence.
* Manage the MSS Environmental vehicle fleet, including inspections, damage logging, maintenance, and policy enforcement.
* Assist with selection and performance reviews of subcontractors.
* Collaborate with the Commercial Lead to identify opportunities to increase margin return from supply chain.
* Develop and present strategic direction to the MD to drive profitability, working with the commercial lead to develop measurement tools.
* Oversee strategic vision implementation in partnership with the BRM (Env).
* Promote the business by attending trade body events and industry functions.
* Act as an active member of the Senior Management Team, attending SMT meetings and updating SMT members on all aspects of MSS Environmental.
