Newton Boys and Girls Club is a registered children's charity and we are delighted to be able to offer the opportunity for people to join our volunteering team.

We run weekly sessions for children aged 8-18 over 4 evenings. Wednesdays we have a junior session (children aged 8-11 or school year 6) and Thursday and Friday we run senior sessions for children aged from school year 7+)

There are many areas for you to get involved with including sports, hair and beauty, music, arts and crafts, befriending and mentoring.

As an organisation we understand your time, skills and enthusiasm are precious so we want you to get the most out of your time with us, so we will ensure you receive an depth induction, ongoing training and development opportunities.

Volunteer Role: Youth Mentor & Session assistant

Based at: Newton Boys and Girls Club

Reports to: Volunteer Co-ordinator

Number of hours: min 2 hours per week

When required: Week days/evenings to be agreed

The Role of the Volunteer will be to:

* Assist the youth worker in delivering activities to young people aged 8 – 18. Such as:

* Multi sports

* Arts and Crafts

* Fundraising

* Kitchen duties

* Serving members & public

* Reception duties

* Setting up

* Tidying after sessions

As a Volunteer you will learn how to:

* Complete Monitoring and Evaluation forms after each session.
* Plan and organise activity sessions.
* Work with other young people to identify goals, objectives and to help them work towards these.
* Offer support, guidance and encouragement to young people attending the sessions.
* Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Organisation's confidentiality policy.
* Use your own initiative
* Have good listening and communication skills.
* Be a positive role model
* Uphold NBGC's policies and procedures

NBGC will offer you:

* a DBS check if aged 16+ (free)

* Work reference after 3 months of volunteering
* Training, support and guidance on your volunteering journey
* Help with CV writing, and careers advice
* Sense of belonging and being part of the NBGC family

Supervision:

Once recruited, you will be required to have regular catch ups with the Project Leader/ Volunteer support worker. These sessions will enable the organisation to monitor your development, give you an opportunity to feedback and discuss progress, support and further training.

Expected hours: 2 – 10 per week
