The job itself
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council has exciting vacancies within our Approved Mental Health Professional and Out of Hours Service (AMHP & OOH Team) within Adult Social Care Services.
We are expanding our AMHP & OOH service due to increased investment and demand. We offer a permanent contract, bespoke training, opportunities for advancement, and professional development.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership to foster a teamwork-oriented, achievement-driven, and accountable environment, with at least 3 years of post-qualifying experience in Adult Social Care or Mental Health Services.
If you do not currently hold an AMHP qualification, you will need to undertake the next suitable AMHP training programme and succeed in it.
The service operates from 8am to 8pm on a two-shift system (early and late shifts) on a 12-week rolling rota, covering 7 days including Bank Holidays.
You will provide support and advice as part of an integrated 24/7 Mental Health service, working with vulnerable adults and children experiencing mental health distress. If AMHP qualified, you will assess situations, advocate, and identify the least restrictive options.
The role involves managing a small but complex caseload requiring specialist knowledge, often in collaboration with other teams and agencies.
This is an opportunity to develop your specialist knowledge within a supportive Council environment that offers ongoing professional development, qualifications, and career growth initiatives. You will contribute to developing an effective 24/7 mental health service supporting vulnerable individuals.
You will join a dedicated team focusing on the application of the Mental Health Act 1983 (if qualified) and other legislation, working across a multi-agency network. Expect a safe working environment, manageable caseloads, supervision, bespoke training, flexible working, and peer support. We encourage professional interests and knowledge expansion to foster expertise.
Our robust training programme, led by experts, covers mental health topics and legislation. The team adopts a blended working approach, including home and office-based work.
The role requires autonomous decision-making, resilience, and experience in supervising peers. A valid driving license is necessary, and eligibility for unrestricted council vehicle insurance is required if applicable.
Note: Qualified AMHPs are graded at Grade 8; Trainee AMHPs are graded at Grade 7b until qualification is achieved, with the next training available in January 2026.
