This post attracts an annual market supplement of £3,500.
At Bath & North East Somerset Council, our mission is clear: to improve people’s lives. We're seeking an experienced and motivated procurement professional with a strong background in social care to join our team.
What is Social Care Procurement?
Procurement in social care involves the process of acquiring services and goods that support the delivery of social care to individuals who need assistance. This can include a wide range of activities, from contracting with care providers and suppliers to purchasing equipment and resources essential for care services. The goal is to ensure that the right services and products are available to meet the needs of service users effectively and efficiently, while also achieving value for money and maintaining high-quality standards.
Procurement professionals in social care often work closely with various stakeholders, including commissioning teams, care providers, and service users, to develop procurement strategies that align with broader social care goals and policies. Their work is crucial in ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive the support they need in a timely and cost-effective manner.
At B&NES, as a Procurement Manager, you'll lead procurement activities and collaborate with commissioners across our social care, education, and public health teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape and influence how the local authority delivers services, driving meaningful change.
We’re looking for forward-thinking individuals who have significant procurement experience in social care and can manage innovative and robust procurement projects. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong business partnering, analytical, communication, and organisational skills.
About the Role
As part of our Strategic Procurement Team within the Finance Directorate, you will support and advise senior management and officers on all aspects of procurement activity. Working closely with commissioning colleagues, you’ll play a crucial role in developing and implementing our Procurement Strategy, ensuring that procurement activities align with the Council’s Corporate Strategy.
About You
You will need comprehensive knowledge of procurement best practice in a Public Sector context (minimum 3 years), including knowledge and experience of operating within Public Procurement law and the UK procurement regulations (including Public Contract Regulations 2015 and Procurement Act 2023).
You bring extensive experience and expertise in managing procurement activities for social care, education, and public health commissioned services. As a motivated individual who thrives on forming strategic relationships with senior management teams, you excel in a team-oriented, matrix-style management environment.
Your role will involve driving a range of procurement projects alongside heads of service, commissioning managers, and contract managers. You’ll develop strategies and policies and support directorates to ensure effective implementation.
As a proactive manager with a collaborative approach, you lead by example, demonstrating a people-focused, risk-based approach to procurement that supports council strategic objectives.
