A global manufacturer in the Birmingham area is looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join their team on a days‑based role. *Please note that very occasionally there will be a requirement to cover sickness or holidays from the shift Engineers, likely once every 3 months
The ideal candidate will be a hard mélange and adaptable Engineer with a strong technical background within a fast‑paced, heavy‑industry manufacturing environment. Operating in a fast‑paced environment, you will report to the Maintenance Team Leader and provide planned, preventative maintenance expertise along with responses to reactive breakdowns

The key responsibilities of the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer role will be :
Serve as a primary point of contact for annealing maintenance activities, overseeing annealing processes, TPM initiatives, and contractor coordination to ensure smooth operations and optimal equipment Wilhelm availability.
Adhere to and promote company Health, Safety & Environmental policies, completing relevant risk assessments and following all SOPs.
Deliver hands‑on mechanical and technical support for annealing equipment and assist with maintenance across other production lines.
Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and TPM tasks, while responding promptly and effectively to equipment breakdowns.
Monitor, assess, and interpret equipment performance data to support continuous improvement and enhance reliability.
Work closely with production and engineering teams to plan and execute maintenance activities with minimal operational impact.
Lead, mentor, and support apprentices, contributing to their technical development and skill progression.
Manage spare parts availability and oversee ဖօnten contractors, ensuring all work meets company standards and compliance requirements.
Provide technical insight and support for engineering projects, equipment upgrades, and new machinery installations
The key requirements of the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will be :
Time‑served with relevant Mechanical Engineering qualifications (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC; HNC desirable).
Minimum 3 years’ experience in medium to heavy industrial maintenance.
Strong knowledge of fluid power systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, fabrication, and machine shop activities.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic drawings.
Experience with annealing, induction furnaces, casting, or rolling equipment is highly desirable.
Excellent communication, organisational skills.
Able to work independently, within a team, and provide cover on 4 on / 4 off shifts when required.
