Climate17 is helping an international renewable energy development company grow its North America team. With an exciting runway ahead and strong funding for growth, they are seeking a Transmission Strategist as a key hire to drive greenfield development for utility-scale renewable projects across the US. The role is focusing on site origination, engineering, and energy market activities. Your primary responsibility will be managing grid interconnection processes and supporting the broader development strategy for the company’s North American portfolio.
You’ll join a collaborative, growth-oriented team and play a key role in shaping the company’s project pipeline and transmission strategy. Key Responsibilities
* Serve as a subject matter expert in transmission and interconnection planning, with a focus on power system modelling and analysis in ERCOT and WECC regions.
* Oversee project interconnection requests, track milestones, and maintain project databases in coordination with RTOs, utilities, and cooperatives.
* Prepare and review interconnection applications, conduct power system studies, and manage queue positions.
* Coordinate with consultants and internal teams to support engineering needs, negotiate interconnection agreements, and assist with site acquisition.
* Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and new technologies, representing the company in industry groups and forums.
Requirements
* At least 7 years’ experience in renewable energy, ISO, transmission owner, or developer roles.
* Strong knowledge of Open Access Transmission Tariffs (OATT), generator interconnection procedures, and U.S. ISO/RTO study methodologies.
* Deep understanding of transmission grid planning, design, and operations.
* Demonstrated leadership and ability to build consensus across teams.
* Effective communicator, able to clearly convey technical and strategic information.
* Established relationships with utilities, transmission owners, and system operators.
* Adaptable and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Education
* Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering required.
* Master’s degree and/or Professional Engineering license preferred.
Technical Skills
* Advanced: PSSE, TARA, PowerWorld, Energy Insights, NIRA, Minerva, Orrenia, Aurora, Microsoft Office Suite.
* Proficient: PROMOD, Energy Exemplar, or similar tools.
Compensation & Benefits
* Salary: $150,000 - $180,000 per annum commensurate with experience.
* Strong bonus and benefits package, including insurance and 401k.
* Remote role (US-based), minimal travel required.
