As one of the world's largest networks of audit, tax and consulting firms, RSM delivers big ideas and premium service to help middle-market businesses thrive.

We are a fast-growing firm with big ambitions — we have a clear goal to become the premium adviser to the middle market, globally. This vision touches everything we do, motivating and inspiring us to become better every day. If you are looking for a firm where you can build a future and make an impact, then RSM is the place for you.

What we are looking for

Our national Innovation Reliefs team works with a wide range of companies, from start-ups to multinationals, supporting them with the preparation of Research and Development tax relief claims and helping you expand your capabilities and grow professionally. An exciting opportunity to join a growing, specialist Innovation Reliefs tax team operating nationally, with flexible working arrangements. The role involves working directly with IT specialists across a wide range of businesses at the forefront of their technology, while gaining experience within a global professional services firm.

You’ll make an impact by

* Engaging with clients’ technical stakeholders across a range of industries, leveraging your knowledge of software and digital technologies to develop a clear understanding of the technological aspects of their R&D projects, with support from senior colleagues.
* Producing clear, high-quality technical narratives that provide the technical justification for software R&D claims, in line with HMRC requirements.
* Contributing technical input and subject-matter insight to software-focused R&D projects, under the guidance of senior colleagues.
* Keeping up to date with trends in software development, digital technologies and emerging tech across multiple sectors (e.g. fintech, healthtech, SaaS, e-commerce and data/AI platforms).
* Contributing to the development and refinement of technical methodologies used in preparing R&D claims, supporting consistency and quality across engagements.
* Applying relevant HMRC guidance and DSIT definitions to help identify eligible software R&D activities for tax relief, with guidance and support from senior colleagues.
* Working collaboratively with colleagues from different disciplines to support the delivery of R&D claims to time and quality standards.
* Supporting the project teams by contributing to updates on milestones, risks, issues and project progress.
* Leveraging digital tools, including approved AI where appropriate, to support research, analysis and documentation in line with firm policies and client confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications

* A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline (or a relevant postgraduate qualification). Equivalent, relevant work experience may also be considered.
* Prior research or practical experience gained through academic study, software development projects or roles is advantageous.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and produce high-quality written outputs.
* Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines.
* Some experience of working with clients or stakeholders (e.g. through placements, internships, projects or work experience) is beneficial.
* Strong teamwork skills, with a desire to work collaboratively with colleagues from different disciplines, both locally and nationally.
* A genuine interest in software development, digital technologies and innovation, and curiosity about how R&D tax relief supports innovation.
* Willingness to learn, take on feedback and develop technical and consulting skills in a professional services environment.

What we can offer you

We recognise that our people are our most important assets. That’s why we offer a flexible reward and benefits package that will help you have a fulfilling experience, both in and out of work.

* The opportunity to join a growing, specialist Innovation Reliefs tax team operating nationally, with exposure to a wide range of clients and technologies.
* A supportive environment with structured onboarding and relevant training to help you develop technical, consulting and client-facing skills.
* Hybrid and flexible working, with access to offices nationally and regular opportunities to collaborate in person with your team.
* A competitive salary and benefits package.
* 26 days’ annual leave, with the option to purchase additional days.
* A range of lifestyle, health and wellbeing benefits, including financial wellbeing support and access to a virtual GP.
