Do you want to experience what it's like working in a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit? Are you looking for a new opportunity to make a real difference to those that need it most? An exciting opportunity has come up to work within the Male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) based within St Ann's Hospital as a Mental Health Support Worker.
Haven Male PICU is a 7-bedded male PICU that provides a high level of effective and compassionate care to men experiencing the most acute phase of serious mental disorders. This includes working with individuals presenting with psychotic disorders, mood disorders, complex trauma, and personality disorders. We aim to promote a calm and therapeutic environment where our patients are supported by a friendly, skilled, and enthusiastic team to aid their recovery.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, confident, and caring worker who wishes to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing the best experience for our service users. Your role will involve working within the team to provide care and treatment to patients detained under the Mental Health Act, using a range of nursing interventions within national guidelines. Responsibilities include:
1. Working under the leadership of a Registered Mental Health Nurse.
2. Supporting the provision of care to meet patients' physical, psychological, and social needs.
3. Ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment when nursing patients with high-risk behaviors.
4. Implementing co-produced and individualized care plans and contributing to their evaluation.
5. Leading and engaging patients in activities both on and off the ward.
6. Promoting freedom of choice, autonomy, and least restrictive practices in a safe environment.
If you can interact well with people, are passionate, willing to listen, and interested in learning new skills, we would like to hear from you. Experience in healthcare, particularly mental health, is desirable but not essential. We support your development to become a skilled, competent, and confident worker within PICU. The role involves working shifts across the 7-day week, including nights.
