Offer description

THIS VACANCY IS FOR INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY About the role The Bodleian Public Engagement Team develops exhibitions, events and learning programmes designed to engage diverse audiences with world-class research and exceptional library collections. As Education Officer, you will play a key role in this work by delivering high-quality learning experiences for schools and families and supporting the nationally delivered ‘Picture This’ project, which brings artworks and visual-literacy teaching into primary schools across four English regions. You will develop and deliver creative, curriculum-linked sessions for KS2 to KS5 learners using Bodleian collections, as well as tailored activities for families and community participants. You will work directly with researchers, artists and partners to produce high-impact events and resources, maintaining strong relationships with teachers and local schools. You will also design and deliver workshops as part of the ‘Picture This’ project, travelling to participating schools and contributing to evaluation and reporting for internal and external stakeholders. You will support the wider Public Engagement team by developing digital learning materials, participating in relevant GLAM committees and maintaining accurate project records. This is a part-time, fixed-term post working 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE) from January 2026 until 31st July 2027, reducing to 15 hours per week (0.4 FTE) on an open-ended basis from 1st August 2027. Some offsite and remote working is supported on a flexible, non-regular pattern. Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to regulated activity involving children. About You You will be an experienced learning practitioner with significant experience planning and delivering creative programmes for schools and families, ideally within a library, museum or cultural setting. You will have a strong understanding of object-based learning and be confident using paintings and prints to engage primary-school learners. You will have experience delivering outreach sessions, including in-school workshops for KS2. You will be highly organised, able to balance multiple ongoing projects and make short-term plans that support longer-term objectives. You will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, bringing excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You will have strong IT skills, including experience with design software, and a good understanding of evaluation methods, audience data and reporting. Experience of current UK education policy, museum or gallery qualifications, or knowledge of the higher-education sector would be advantageous.
