Job Title: Mechanical Fitter

Location: Port of Grangemouth

Compensation: Salary - £37,316 & Shift allowance - £5,000 + Call-out allowance + Paid O/T (1.5x mid-week and 2x weekends)

About The Role

In this role as a Mechanical Fitter, you will play a key part in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all plant equipment across the Port of Grangemouth. You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical systems in line with our Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), supporting the wider engineering and operations teams to minimise downtime and maintain high operational performance. Your work will directly contribute to our commitment to safety, compliance, and exceptional service delivery across the Port of Grangemouth and other company locations as required. 



Key responsibilities:

* Ensure that all jobs are undertaken safely, with due regard to risk assessments, permit-to-work requirements, working procedures and statutory legislation. Responsible for wearing protective clothing and notifying a Supervisor of any potential hazards

* Take a proactive approach to maintaining all mechanical equipment and promptly report any damage or misuse to a Supervisor.  Liaise with operational staff as appropriate to coordinate repairs

* Maintain a high standard of work and productivity in line with good customer service

* Develop a thorough working knowledge of plant equipment and associated drawings in order to repair and maintain equipment to minimise downtime

* Demonstrate initiative, sound judgment and strong organisational skills to work independently and ensure tasks are completed accurately and safely

* Keep management and engineering staff fully informed of timescales for completion of tasks. This is particularly essential during busy peak periods

* Undertake any ancillary tasks as required

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a Mechanical Fitter who is flexible, reliable, and fully prepared for the practical demands of the role. Previous shift-working experience is essential, along with the ability to manage a work pattern that includes regular shift and overtime commitments. The position involves working at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors in varying weather conditions, so confidence and competence in these environments are important. Travel to other company locations may be required to support a unified maintenance approach across the business.



Skills and Qualifications:

* Completion of a recognised Apprenticeship with a minimum HNC Mechanical Engineering qualification

* Experience in heavy mechanical engineering in an industrialised environment

* Experience of maintenance, repair and operation of mechanical systems including cranes, straddle carriers, forklift trucks and hydraulic operating systems

* Strong understanding of mechanical systems, engineering principles and design techniques

* Full right to work in the UK

* Full UK driving licence
