Retail Sales Development Manager
Location: Greater Manchester
Main office with regular travel to retail locations
Reporting To Sales Director & Managing Director
Role Purpose
The Retail Sales Development Manager provides strategic and hands-on leadership across a network of 40+ company-owned and franchise retail locations. The role is responsible for driving commercial performance, operational excellence, and consistent brand standards across the retail estate. This position plays a key role in improving sales, stock control, staffing, and retail best practices while supporting both company-owned and franchise partners to achieve sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
Retail Strategy & Performance
* Develop and deliver a retail sales development strategy aligned with overall business objectives.
* Drive revenue growth and profitability across all stores, ensuring performance targets are achieved.
* Analyse sales data and KPIs to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
* Support forecasting, budgeting, and commercial planning with senior leadership.
Store Development & Operations
* Ensure consistent, high-quality retail standards across all locations.
* Conduct regular store visits to review performance, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
* Identify underperforming stores and implement structured improvement plans.
Stock, Ordering & Returns
* Oversee accurate ordering, stock control, and demand planning across the network.
* Reduce waste, control stock holding, and improve returns processes.
* Work closely with supply chain, production, and finance teams to maintain robust stock controls.
People Leadership
* Ensure appropriate staffing levels across all retail locations.
* Develop and support store managers as strong commercial and people leaders.
* Support recruitment, training, and retention across the retail network.
Franchise Support
* Act as a key point of contact for franchise partners.
* Ensure franchise compliance with brand, operational, and commercial standards.
* Support onboarding and development of new franchise locations.
Brand, Customer Experience & Compliance
* Deliver a consistent, high-quality customer experience across all stores.
* Ensure compliance with company policies, health & safety, and employment legislation.
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
* Produce regular performance and KPI reports.
* Communicate insights and recommendations clearly to senior leadership.
* Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver retail success.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Senior multi-site retail management experience.
* Strong commercial and analytical capability.
* Proven leadership and people development experience.
* Experience managing stock, ordering, and returns.
* Food Hygiene Level 2.
* Willingness to travel regularly.
Desirable
* Franchise retail experience.
* Experience developing or scaling a retail network.
