Our client is a leading, Tier 1 maintenance contractor delivering comprehensive repairs and maintenance local authorities and housing associations. Their diverse portfolio spans high-volume responsive repairs, major internal/external planned works, specialist roofing replacements, and critical fire-safety upgrades. They are looking for an adaptable, highly visible SHEQ Advisor to manage risk across these distinct and fast-paced workstreams.
Role Purpose
The SHEQ Advisor will provide expert safety guidance across a multi-discipline delivery framework. This role requires a dynamic professional capable of switching context daily—from high-frequency responsive repairs in occupied homes to high-risk roofing projects and complex fire-remediation works (including fire doors, compartmentation, and cladding). You will actively coach site teams and subcontractors to maintain a bulletproof safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
Multi-Workstream Safety Management
* Planned Maintenance & Repairs: Oversee safety protocols for high-volume kitchen/bathroom replacements and day-to-day responsive repairs, ensuring minimum disruption and maximum safety for residents.
* Roofing & Scaffolding: Act as the subject matter expert on high-risk works, including roof replacements, structural repairs, external wall insulation (EWI), and complex scaffolding installations.
* Fire Safety Compliance: Monitor compliance on critical fire-remediation works, ensuring strict adherence to specification standards for fire doors, compartmentation, and passive fire protection.
Site Compliance & Auditing
* Conduct regular, unannounced H&S and environmental audits across scattered site locations and mobile repair vans.
* Ensure all projects strictly adhere to CDM 2015 Regulations from pre-construction to handover.
* Audit and ensure the proper handling, management, and disposal of hazardous materials (e.g., Asbestos).
* Review, challenge, and approve subcontractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), specifically focusing on working at height, hot works, and tenant interface.
* Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, producing robust root-cause analysis reports and implementing preventative measures.
Culture & Engagement
* Deliver engaging toolbox talks and safety briefings tailored to specific trade risks (e.g., roofing safety, fire-stopping integrity, sharps awareness for repair technicians).
* Act as a bridge between the delivery teams, subcontractors, and tenants, ensuring a polite, respectful, and safe working environment inside people's homes.
Experience (Essential)
* Minimum 2–3 years of experience working as a SHE/HSE Advisor for a Principal Contractor in Social Housing.
* Proven exposure to a varied portfolio including planned works, reactive repairs, and roofing.
* Good working knowledge of Fire Safety regulations (Regulatory Reform / Fire Safety Act updates) in relation to residential buildings.
* Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015, Work at Height, and Asbestos awareness.
