Join the Open University as a Finance Core Support Assistant and support the Finance Shared Service / Core Support function within the Business Partnering team.

The role provides high‑quality financial services, collating data for internal and external reporting, assisting with the preparation and organisation of relevant financial information, and coordinating submissions to stakeholders. Key tasks involve transactional entry and processing, query triage, journal processing, mailbox management, and generating routine financial reports.

The position is part‑time, fixed‑term until 31 August 2026, requiring 18 hours per week on‑site on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.


Key Responsibilities

* Ad hoc and scheduled transactional queries, triaging when needed.
* Journal processing for the Management Accounting team.
* Resolving transactional audit queries.
* Monitoring mailboxes and triaging as required.
* Setting up and checking Finance/systems access using identification and forms.
* Maintaining and mapping cost centre and profit centre data.
* Completing, monitoring, maintaining, and closing project and donation set‑ups.
* Running various reports when needed.
* Documenting and updating financial processes, principles, and approaches.
* Keeping up to date on funder terms and conditions as required.
* Proactively engaging with stakeholders to resolve queries.
* Advising colleagues on latest process and system guidance.


About You

* Relevant experience in an accounting environment, ideally within management accounts.
* Experience with costing, budgeting, forecasting, and basic accounting principles such as debits and credits.
* Sound knowledge of MS Excel (tables, charts, formulas, pivot tables, and data manipulation).
* Experience adhering to accounting conventions, financial regulations, and procedures.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a wide variety of tasks.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of dealing confidently with people at all levels.
* Demonstrated attention to detail and strong team‑working skills.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships within the team and with key stakeholders.
* Flexible approach to hybrid working, balancing in‑person and virtual communication.
