Champion reflective learning for tomorrow’s doctors at Plymouth Medical School

Co‑Lead for Professional Development (Reflective Practice) Groups

About the role

Plymouth Medical School is seeking a new Co‑Lead to join our current Lead in coordinating and developing the Professional Development Groups (PDGs) — also known as Jigsaw or Small Groups — across all five years of the BMBS Undergraduate Programme. These reflective practice groups form a core part of our curriculum. Facilitated by clinicians, they provide medical students with a safe and supportive space to reflect on their clinical experiences and explore themes such as professional identity, ethical practice, complexity, compassionate care, teamwork, and wellbeing.

Each Co‑Lead will take nominal responsibility for either Years 1–2 or Years 3–5, while collaborating closely with the other Lead to ensure coherence and progression across the programme. The role includes supporting and training group facilitators, delivering student workshops and small‑group teaching, and contributing as an academic tutor.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a medical doctor with experience in reflective practice, small‑group facilitation, and medical education leadership. You will gain a deep understanding of the PMS curriculum and have the opportunity to enhance an established, innovative programme that helps students integrate their professional learning with real‑world clinical experience.

For this role, you will need to be on site 1 day a week. Although we can accommodate working from home, flexibility to be on‑site will be expected due to business needs. There is an essential requirement that you will be required to travel to and work at different University sites and/or other business locations that may not be easily accessible by public transport. Please refer to the job description for further information.
